Optimus Prime Gen 1

Hey guys,
First time poster, long time follower for advice and tips on various projects I'm currently working on.

When I first discovered pepakura, I halfway assembled numerous projects and ended up scrapping them for various reasons. This was the third project I have done to completion(the other two being a Star Wars Speeder Bike trooper helmet and Cyclops' visor).

I took a lot of what I had learned from the various projects I had worked before and feel like this is my best one yet. I wavered on whether or not to post this in props or costume, but since it is just slightly too small to be a helmet, I have decided that this would be a cool shelf piece.

This was mostly a really well designed pep, but it had some really goofy things with it too. 90% of it was inside out and there were no markers where to connect everything, so I eyeballed it best I could, but it also resulted in a couple of weird spots that didn't quite match up, thus left a few holes.

The idea I have is resin the outside, rondo the inside, bondo the outside and do a battle damaged Optimus Prime with leds for the lights.

If this doesn't belong here, please feel free to remove. Any ideas or suggestions are also welcome!

Congrats on your first post :)

From what I can tell you did a great job with that Optimus head, and would look so much cooler with led's for the eyes. A suggestion for the eyes would probably get a transparent piece of plastic blue or clear and sand both sides of it to diffuse the light and it should give it those classic G1 Optimus eyes ;) Hey if you wanted to I guess you could add a layer or two of gloss clear coat on them too when they are done to give them that shine that Prime's eyes always had in the original cartoon :)

Sorry for rambling on but yeah good luck my friend can't wait to see this finished ;)

Unfortunately, I live in Texas and the weather has been more unpredictable than usual, coupled with the fact that I currently live in an apartment.

I'll be moving back to a house here in a few weeks, so I hope to be able to knock out some work on it by the end of March.

I'll post as I go!

Get ready for sanding, then some sanding, then even more sanding. (Followed up with more sanding)

GL with your project, I can see this turning out really cool.

I know how that goes, Im located in West Texas and one day it can be 80 degrees and the next day its 30 degrees with a wind shield of “OH HELL NO!”. Prop making (especially painting and resins and such) is a little harder in an area with weird weather

Looks great, any chance you have the pep file to share? I've been scouring the internet and had to come out of lurk mode just to ask!
