Hello all, this is a project I did some time ago. I was getting ready to paint up my resin kit of the Book Of Amun Ra; i was kind of bored with just painting so I decided to get my tools out and spice this kit up some by opening it. So here are the W.I.P pics of my book
The book as a resin kit; keep in mind that I did this with just hand tools...I know, really primitive of me :lol

Everything is marked that is going to be cut; the process now begins

The dial and book cover have been modified so that the dial can turn and click when turned :)

Now it's time for the paint process

Almost done; just need to add some more aging appeal and gold leaf the book

Magnets were added to make sure the book stayed closed

Just before the book was complete I added some padding and red velour to the inside just to spruce it up abit; also that tiny black box on the inside of the front cover allows the dial to "click" when turned

A little bit of detail

Now for a close up of my gold leafing job; almost a mirrored finish :)

The final result; the book in it's finished state

This is probably one of my better books that I've ever done; I'm pretty proud of it. Hope you all like it :)

That's frakking awesome. Do you mind saying what brand/color of paint you used for you nigh-mirror finish leafing?

Thanks Nexus for the compliment. Don't laugh but for this book the primer (white) and paint (gloss gold) were from Walmart; it was the store brand :lol for the second and third books I did I used Krylon brand paint products. With the gold leafing the first layer was applied with leafing adhesive, the second and third layers were applied with a secret of mine :love That's what gave it the extra shine :) Pretty much all the books came out looking the same regardless of the undercoat primer and paint; it's the gold leaf that really counts. Check back for my video I post here. I'm working from my phone right now so I'll post it later. Thanks again :thumbsup

That's very cool.
Would like to try making one for my wife when our move is finally settled in.
Did you buy the resin kit or make it? If so, where did you acquire it?

Turning "things" into "containers" is an infatuation of mine I just can't shake, so this project pushed all the Awesome Buttons for me :D Can't wait to see the video!

Thanks all, I actually have a kit up for sale on my Props for sale thread; also the video is posted at the bottom of the photos :) Have a great day all!!!

The red velour really was the icing on the cake :thumbsup The details on the hinges and the hieroglyphs are beautiful!
Imagine if you could make a locking mechanism so that you would have to spin the dial in order to open it :D

What a fantastic idea !!

Well done, the result is great. Now throw some scarabs in it :love

Did you make the kit, or did you buy it 'blank' ?

Thank you; the book doesn't actually lock it's held closed by magnets but the dial does spin and "click" like in the movie. Check out my video at the very bottom of the photos. thanks again! :)

thanks for the compliment Alan! I bought the kit from Stelter Creative when he had these available to the public...years ago; sadly he wont make these anymore. Anyhow, this was a challenge but altogether a fun task. :) I really enjoy doing projects like these...I just wish I had more time for them!

Welcome to the RPF margreen; sorry but this book and my others are long gone. You can go to the Junkyard and post a "want to buy" thread for the item you're looking for that way other members here can see it and maybe be willing to sell that piece if they have it. Hope this helps

Hi this is margreen again thanks for your help, but i was wondering how you opened the amun-ra book and how you took off the hooks on the side

Oh my friend i didn't know you made a beautifull piece like this

If you sell it i'm there you know ^^

Or if you make a run i'm your first buyer !
