Old Obi-Wan Kenobi saber from my basement

Hello. This is my first post. I’ve done a little reading and a little research as I have a question about an Obi-Wan Kenobi lightsaber I have. I messaged a longtime forum member and he suggested I post to the general community. (I guess I should have thought of that!) Anyway…

I recently got back to a 20-year-old project. About 20 years ago I modded a Graflex flash into a Luke ANH saber. Bought a case for it, some extra parts, all the things I needed to make it an ESB and I left it at that. So what I just did was buy a replica Graflex and finish the ESB saber, bought a case, and now I have a set. But back 20 years ago, I also had some other projects going. My question(s) involve two of those. First the Obi-Wan Kenobi saber. At some point I bought this saber. I can’t remember from who, but I think it was an individual and I think I bought it on eBay. It had to be 15 – 20 years ago.

In researching it, I came across Seth Sherwood’s The Complete Lightsaber Prop Guide. I noticed that my saber looks very much like one of those pictured in the guide. I've attached several additional pictures, including some of the saber partially disassembled. The sink knob appears to be real, the central part of the saber is resin, and the part on the front is some sort of metal. There is writing around the part that has the fins just behind the emitter. I’ve posted pictures of the writing and duplicated it here, but some of the characters can’t be typed. Note that I recently replaced the Graflex clamp that came with the Obi-Wan with one I bought while modding the other Luke saber. The one that came with the Obi-Wan is not a Graflex, although it is an amazingly exact reproduction. I’ve also included pictures of that. I think it is aluminum.

The writing (starting from an arbitrary point on the “fins”) says (to the best I can make out): FFC(backwards C)TTCNPOWDERCO IDONDC\ HMF8(backwards C in superscript)ATFNI. Now any or many of these might be different. That is the best I could make out. For instance I think the “D” and the “E” of POWDER could be a “0” and “F.” You’ll have to see the pics.

I just wanted to get people’s ideas about where this saber might have come from. I’d be happy to try and take more or higher quality pics if someone thinks it would help. You could just message me.

I’ve posted a picture of a second saber I bought at some point, which must have been after 1999, since it is a Qui-Gon. I think I bought it from a company called Parks Sabers. It seems a little small – almost like it is a ¾” reproduction? I’ve put a ruler in the picture. The blade hole is 7/8”. Just wondering if anyone could identify it also?

Thanks.

The pommel on your Obi reminds me of one I got years ago from a company called Galaxy Trading, I believe theirs was a copy of the pommel from the Icons Obi saber. The grenade seems to be cast from a real grenade.

Thanks. Someone I talked to earlier thought the saber might be from Icon. I don't know anything about the company. Are they still in existence?

Its definitely not an Icons. Here's an example of an actual Icons Obi saber

Yours looks like an amalgam of fan made parts.

Those resin grenades used to be popular. All replica parts, that's for sure. Clamp looks hand made too.

I thought I'd post an update. Someone must have put this all together before, but this is the first I found it and it was driving me nuts. I was trying to decipher the writing on the front of this saber. I posted a picture of my interpretation of the writing I could make out. Then I saw a picture on Roman's Props of his saber made from original parts and the writing was clear. I couldn't see the entire ring, but a couple of Google searches resulted in this picture and the writing became clear. Around the ring it says:

THE COTTON POWDER CO LTD (CO and LTD are in superscript)
LONDON - HALE'S PATENT

Really awesome finds!

I love the nostalgia feeling from seeing some of these older inaccurate replicas. They preserve the history in our community(IMO), and remind me so much of "the chase", trying to hunt down and accurately identify those original parts. There's an air of excitement from back then that you don't really see anymore.

Hey 10mmauto ! Welcome to TheRPF!

Here's a thread for you read through when you're ready to go down through the rabit hole...

Ok, thanks. I could use some light reading this afternoon!
