Official Predators movie site is up and running.

Re: Predators preview online

Hmmm.... not feeling it yet... already with the "we wanted to improve on the original and make an even meaner Predator"... not making me feel good. That is almost always a sign of messing it up. And I love the whole thing of "we are trying to go a different direction than Arnold S" and yet... they have the minigun...

Kinda agree with everything youre saying here. The minigun idea not only rips off the more badass original concept from the first film (I always figured the gun was custom made by/for Blaine and only he could use it), but not only does this movie make minigums seem mainstream, but they also use the inferior T-2 style handgrip, which just, IMO, further insults the minigun idea from the original film.

The whole "alien planet" thing not only looks fake (why does it still look like Central America? Wheres all the colorful Avatar vegetation, or the more realistic blazing hot volcanic/desert planet seen in AVPR?), but i just dont like the idea of the Predators bringing their prey back home so to speak. Thats like going deer or turkey hunting, capturing the animal so you can drive all the way back home and shoot it in your own back yard... where's the sport? And why not kill your prey in its own environment where it can use it against you like in the first movie? More of a challenge eh? Maybe not for these lazy "super Predators" who just want to disorient the poor pitiful humans into panicking to where they wont put up much of a fight (on another note.... where the hell did they get all the guns and military grade equipment?). *sighs and groans....*

The idea of multiple predators hunting at once and teaming up, as indicated by the ridiculous amount of targeting lasers on one person, just seems flat out wrong and weakens the predator as an "all powerful hunter" as opposed to a solo mission where one can show off his true skill in combat. I mean hell... one was able to take down all but one of the commandos in P1; another was able to, less skillfully, take down the LAPD and various gangs (yeah, there were multiple preds on the ship, but i figured they were monitering the main pred's performance.); and another still was able to, most impressively, take down a crapload of aliens and cops and even stalemate the predalien before getting blown away in AVPR. They are portrayed as scary powerful and skillful hunters that pose a threat on their own. In this film, its just overkill having too many do all the action; no room for focusing on one and watching him develop through the movie. Thats why I didnt like AVP so much... 3 preds was just too many; shoulda been just one lucky guy getting an all expenses paid opportunity to hunt his species' favorite prey in an ancient holy site as a religious experience. But anyway.....

The casting is just terrible, plain and simple. Yeah the notable actors are good, but not for this kind of movie, the other no-names will likely live up to their pitiful expectations of getting killed off for our pleasure... so no bothering to make them likeable or sympathetic, and probably stock backstories to boot.

To me, this movie is likely going to be worse than either AVP movie, and AVPR was better than any series's sequel outside of Aliens IMO. I dont get it... usually RR does a good job, but this has "FAIL" written all over it.

Regardless, I'll still go see it because as usual I'm a sucker for this kind of stuff and will see it with no expectations except being entertained by awesome Predator action. Hopefully we'll be suprised and it will be good, like AVPR was somewhat, but likely it will be a mostly forgettable film that will stay around on peoples minds until the inevitable Aliens-only reboot comes out.

Re: Predators preview online

Okay this hasn't really been mentioned but I always thought that a good Predator movie was one that pretended to be a different movie and the Predator (and aliens in AvP R) snuck in and started mucking with things/interacting resulting in a big climax at the end.

Predator - Central American Guerrilla war flick
Predator 2 - LA Detective Movie
AvP R - Slice of life Teen Movie in the Rockies

AvP was mediocre to me for 2 reasons.
1. Predators are space Teddy Roosevelts on safari. I don't want to see inexperienced teenagers.

2. No movie within a movie. The whole movie focus was about the temple and the right of manhood.

But hell. I've grown fonder of AvP watching the unrated version a few times. It just seems to me that this movie is going to repeat more of what I didn't like in AvP. But I'm going to see it and keep an open mind. I didn't watch any of the hype for AvP R and it was one of the most pleasantly surprising experiences I've had at a theater in awhile. And I'm anxious to see how the storyline will tie in to the other movies in the franchise...

Re: Predators preview online

This script was written long ago but shelved. There have been a few changes but mostly it the same. It originally written 8-2-96. Can't really judge this by the rest after that. It was originally supposed to have Arnie in it but too old now.

Re: Predators preview online

The script was ridiculous. More like 'Planet Terror' goofy nonsense than 'Predator'.
From what I understand the movie is essentially the script that's been floating around for years.
Oh, and speaking of things they're ripping off form 'Predator' besides the guy with the minigun, there's even a scene in the trailer with Adrian Brody wearing an empty assault vest, covered in mud just like Arnie.

The whole movie looks like "Hey, let's make this look as much like 'Predator' as we can except instead of an ex-wrestler with a minigun we'll have an ex MMA fighter with a minigun. Instead of Arnold Schwarzenegger covered in mud eluding the Pred, we'll have a skinny gaunt looking fool covered in mud eluding the Pred."

Original has Arnold Schwarzenegger, new one has Adrain Brody.
Original has Carl Weathers, new one has Topher Grace.
Original was directed by John McTiernan, new one directed by Nimrod Antal. (Who??)

I just don't know about this one.

Re: Predators preview online

This is gonna be epic fail...NOTHING can live up to the original.
+1.

No reason this should have been done at all. It's just for $$$$$$$$$$. The last two sucked badly but they made a lot of money.

I will watch this movie any day over the mind-numbing AvP and AvPR movies. Whoever thought it was a good idea to make a sequel to AvP.... ugh. I like Lawrence Fishbourne so hopefully this movie will make me forget about the others, and I can live in my own happy world where only Alien, Aliens, Predator, and Predators, exsist.

I agree with an earlier poster that one of the coolest aspects of Predator was that it was a true movie within a movie and there was a TREMENDOUS amount of setup before we ever got a glimpse of the Predator... and honestly, with a little more development, a successful war picture could have been made if the Predator was eliminated altogether. I think that had a lot to do with the success of the movie. We were going in a specific direction (military/war flick) and then were sidetracked by the introduction of the Predator.

I think, like Boba Fett, so many other well loved characters, one of the reasons we fell in love with the Predator was that there was so little of it and a lot of it was left a mystery. If you go back and watch Predator, the creature gets very little overall screentime... making us beg for more. While we want more... maybe it kills it to get it.

Maybe I'm wrong but I thought that we sent the people to the Predator planet. At least that's what I heard a while back.

Wait.... WHAT?!?!?!?!? o_O How would WE know where to send them? Outside of Star Trek, where are humans going to have the warp speed to get them to a "Predator" planet (I'm beginning to think this isnt the homeworld seen in AvPR, but, as stated, a "game reserve" planet) when they dont even know where it is?!?!?

I mean... all we were left with as far as alien technology goes was a wrist dart (P2) and a plasma caster (AvPR), wow.... I'd like to meet the Astromomer guy who just happened to know exactly where they came from, heh heh....

Re: Predators preview online

Nobody expects the second coming of 1987.

That's the problem. Some do. And consequently are NEVER happy.

Go in with high expectations and you're almost always disappointed.

Go in with low expectations and you're almost always pleased.

Try it.

WHOA! Who's this guy???

Has that helmet been used before? I love the crocodile grin!
