how sturdy is the sliding mechanism? does it feel solid when closed / open?

Not a single issue here. You won't regret getting this piece. Turns that saber into something special and it is solid, not rattling parts or anything.

This. With bells on. I think I was on the first run, though got an upgraded part later on. Never had any issues, but do suggest using a thread lock liquid just to keep everything tight if you're planning a lot of use
