NX-01 1/1000 paint advice

I already painted this one. I used paints recommended by am online video builder. I am by no means upset, it doesn't look bad, but I would like to tone it down a bit.

The video recommended Tamiya Light Gun Metal as the first coat. That color is very nice. Then mask, then spray with Testors Metalizer Aluminum Plate. Again it doesn't look bad, it's just a little too much contrast between the two shades.

Is there a wash or something I can do to tone it down a bit?

For me a nice dull coat always brings everything down a notch and helps a color pattern kinda "gel" together. But, it will turn your metalics into grey tones. Fyi.
