Nightwing Zentai Build For Halloween

Hey all, it's me again this time with a different hero, originally I had no idea who I was going to be for Halloween as it switched from a cheap version of Michelangelo from TMNT or Leonardo, then it came to Ben Affleck Batman, after it was the Spider-Man build I was doing (still am), but I realized all these heroes started to become overly expensive so I decided to opt out on a budget.

One night as I was searching through YouTube, I found this fantastic cosplay from a user identified as 217rambo, I thought let's go for it and check through all his videos. There I found this wickedly awesome Nightwing build he had done and I thought to myself, it doesn't look too expensive. The next day I decided to do some research on Nightwing himself, learning where the name came from, why Dick decided to abandon his role as Robin and overall study his habits and methods. Scrimmaging through the pile of useless things in my room I found what was once a walking pole for hikers, I did my thing and took it apart and I got the overall basis of what I wanted Nightwing's escrima sticks to look like. After some tinkering and patience, I got the overall basis of what I wanted for the sticks themselves, but I didn't know what the heck to do for the rest of the costume. I figured for this build I was going to stay traditional with the Nightwing look but make it into my own style in the process.

Basically, what the costume is going to look like is a mix of Arkham City Nightwing as well as several other designs I found from Google, now what I need help with is the base of the suit. I found this cheap suit online that's offering a Nightwing zentai for 35$CA, but the problem is I don't know if I should trust this site or not: http://www.lightinthebox.com/black-and-blue-spandex-lycra-zentai-costume_p491685.html

If anyone can help me and send me a PM or comment on this thread indicating if it's a resourceful site to go to that would be greatly appreciated.

Okay, got my sarcasm out of my system :D.

I decided to read through a few of the links that that pulls up, and from what I have read, they really shouldn't be trusted. No customer service, poor quality products, incorrect sizes being sent, etc. My assumption based on 5 minutes of research: too good to be true, go elsewhere. Sorry about that. I hope you find something else for a decent price! Zentai Zone has the same suit for $38 USD, and I have heard much better things about them.

Yea light in the box are too good to be true go with zentai zone I was gonna do that after my spidey suit so yea and I am a fan of rambo or ramy I think is his real name, look him up on Facebook as his YouTube name and I think be has things he did for his suit up there, also he has retractable dare devil escrima sticks which are cool too good luck man I'll help in any way I can

Thank you guys for the replies, it means a lot, and I checked out Zentai Zone and it definitely seems more legit than the other zentai site, I'll be sure to keep you guys updated on the progress. Later in the afternoon I'll post some photos of what I've done so far for the suit.

Hey guys I know this is a little out of topic but does anyone know any template designs to make a foam Batman cowl? Not like TDK but more like the Hush design.

Any replies would be grateful.

Hello, hello, hello, back with a small update here. I decided before all my recent plans for Nightwing to make a mock-up of the mask and my sort-of finished batons. Here it is:

More pics later tonight..

Well it looks like someone got their wish, hahah.
Here are some updates of the costume now instead of before.

The jacket and black pants aren't final, just a nice mock-up. I was wondering if you guys couls critique whether or not it's best if I use sunglasses underneath or nah.

Personally, with the jacket-and-pants look, I like the lenses. It adds a little more flair to the already unorthodox look, in a good way.

There are multiple ways to go about making holsters for escrima sticks. You have to decide whether you want holsters (essentially pockets) for them, just security straps, or even just to be held in place magnetically. You have to decide where you want them to live (hip(s) or back are the popular locations). Then you have to figure out what material you need to use. All of the above may be dependent on how heavy your sticks are and what size/shape they are. (i.e. Are they just 2 PVC pipes painted a metallic black and each barely weighing a pound? Or are they weighted down with metal and electronics, and have a "shocker" on the end?)

Based on your most recent pics, they look slender and light, so your choice of materials is pretty versatile. Think up what you would like to use and how you want them to be "holstered" and we can probably give you some better suggestions. :)

Well I want to stay classic and have the holsters at the back, but the pipes are pretty much a walking pole taken apart. What exactly does versatile mean?

I mean that you have a wide selection of material choices out of which you can make the holsters. Pick your cloth of choice, cut two strips, roughly 2.5 times as wide as the stick and about 2/3 as long. Those measurements should give you a snug fit that won't make them stick up too far over your head. Measure twice, cut once. Make sure you know where you want the sticks to "live" on your back before you cut, so you know how much material you need to cut to make that feasible.

Unfortunately, this is one of the easiest way to make these, since you will essentially be taking the sticks out and replacing them without looking.

I thought about what to pick for a while and suggested to myself using foam, but after testing it about 5-10 times I kept on searching threads until I found the thread which surprisingly is on the RPF.

There I decided to cut up old backpack straps and make it look a little more authentic than anything. I attached some velcro to the batons and back of backpack straps.

Gauntlets are made from old MMA shin-guards made for like.. An 8 year old, I then cut out pieces of foam which afterwards I dipped in 50% glue, 50% water to paint a cobalt blue.

Close up look of the escrimas and how they're attached by velcro... I might switch to a different method though.

Grapple gun mock-up made from a Nerf gun, dunno how I'm going to attach it.

Overall the progress is going well I think, let me know what you guys think and some tips to improve maybe? (I enjoy constructive criticism)
Thanks for looking!

Guys, I kind of need your help. Does anyone know any good alternatives to zentai-zone? How fast does zentai-zentai ship? Do you think Amazon is a good place to buy it? The reason being is I can't quite buy it in Zentai-Zone, the PayPal method isn't working.
