News from the Mandalorian

I’m pretty sure IG-88 was always officially considered, in universe, to be an “assassin droid” whatever that means. It would make sense to have slight variations between droids of even the same series, just like R2 units having different colors. It wouldn’t/shouldn’t affect the assassin-y aspects of its capabilities.

I just want to see it run with those big clunky Tom Dempsey feet.

But don’t you agree it’d be a dick move for Favreau to post that pic, and then have it turn out that it’s some other IG-88 droid?

Premiere bounty hunter? ;)

Fair enough. ;) But you know what I mean.

In defense of Boba, if he was really that inept, he wouldn’t have had what appeared to be a long-standing business relationship with Vader. And he was the only person who saw through Han’s ruse in ESB, after all. He squarely beat all of our heroes in that film.

Yeah, I know. My post was just all in good fun :)

I know. :) That scene still drives me up the wall 35 years later.....

If GL’s intention was to make the point that some days it’s better to be lucky (Han) than be good (Boba), that’s fine. I just wish he hadn’t made Boba look like a stupe in the process.

I don’t know. I guess it depends on what the character ends up being like. I could see it going either way and I could enjoy it either way. The SW fan in me would enjoy seeing the integration of a non-main player from the OT showing up, but the prop snob in me would also appreciate them not making this THE IG-88 due to the slight nit-picky differences. Either way I could see it working.

squirk I think what makes that scene even worse is it's the only time we actually see Boba Fett in action and not just standing around looking cool.

**On a side note, ever since I was a kid, I always had trouble making out the “face” of IG-88, as it is fairly set up without animal type features similar to how R2 doesn’t have a nose or mouth, even though one could argue he does have an eye. Even C-3PO has very human-like features for being a droid.

Has anyone else ever had difficulty placing which of IG-88’s “head” constructs represent which human-like features on his face like I did? This photo is the best representation of what I have taken to be what on his “face”.

As a New Orleans native and Saints fan, a tip of the cap for your Tom Dempsey callout.

As for IG-88’s face, in all my years, I never looked for a set “face”. I always thought the different “rings” rotated to whatever orientation he needed at any given moment, like a 3-dial combination lock.

Exactly. Even though he “won” in ESB by basically outsmarting our heroes, we never saw his full skill set on display.

But to play Devil’s advocate: if the Obi-Wan vs. Jango fight in AOTC showed what a Fett was capable of - going toe-to-toe against a seasoned and very powerful Jedi master - then maybe a stroke of dumb luck had to happen. Otherwise, Boba would have wiped the floor with a neophyte Jedi like Luke?

I mean, wasn’t that the point of that scene? That Luke was too distracted on the other skiff, that Boba was going to capitalize on that, and that Luke would not have deflected the rocket?

Don’t get me wrong - I think it could have been done much better, but I can see the logic. Or maybe I’m reading too much into it and GL really did simply screw the pooch.

The point I was making is that a picture was posted up (and maybe not so much on this forum) that people where jumping to conclusions that this is THE IG-88 and going off on tangents about him being in the film when, as you say it may/may not be 88.

It could well be an updated 88, and that would be cool. Course this won’t please others tho.

The other thing I remember is that there were only 4, 88’s and that were produced, with only ‘one’ surviving.

Ho, I forgot about this thread. I think he looks great :)
Vaguely close enough to possibly be the IG88 we know.

I hope it's good.

That was Legacy EU, though, wasn’t it? Or did they resurrect that idea in the comics? I confess I have not read any of the “new” canon EU.
