New Thunderbirds series

I searched and didn't find anything. In January of this year Gerry Anderson announced a new CGI based (boo hiss) version of Thunderbirds. It'll keep the basic idea and all the characters but apparently will be modernized otherwise. Can't say i'm happy about the CGI part. As of January 15th he told a news paper that he hadn't written anything yet but had the basic ideas fleshed out.

I'll leave this here since Gerry Anderson directed the video.

Hmm.. cant view the video since its locked to a different country.

Is this a new clip, or the older one thats been floating about. With Scott doing a backflip at the end?

It's actually the Dire Straights "Calling Elvis" music video lol. Gerry Anderson directed it. I just figured I'd throw it in since it's Thunderbirds related. I hate when youtube does that too and it's usually something already available worldwide.

I do love Gerry, but I really hope this never gets off the ground... I mean, when will they learn? I remember about ten years back seeing kids being interviewed about why they liked Thunderbirds. These were all little kids hooked on a 36 year-old series. The general answer was: 'Because it's cool the way you can see the strings and that they're real puppets and real models and not just something done on a computer!'

I agree. The thought of it being CGI, even good videogame quality CGI, does nothing for me. It'd be like watching the new Transformers show and remembering the magic of hand drawn animation. I think we're seeing the death of hand animation and puppeteers thanks to computers.

Yeah, I was amazed though to see how these nine-year-olds were already jaded with cgi, and how fascinated they were with the idea of marionettes and models. They probably found it intriguing that everything they see in Thunderbirds has to be built as a model - the characters, the landscapes, the houses, the craft... This aspect always fascinates adults I introduce to the show too.

The new Tracy Island playset was unveiled at ToyFair yesterday.

I never had the '92 version so I'm actually quite tempted by this!
As to the look of the Tracy boys themselves, I don't think they deserve the flak they seem to be getting. Designs look good, especially Scott. I just don't get why they've made Gordon blonde and John ginger :\

Looking forward to seeing a proper trailer - I'm curious as to how well the CGI characters blend in with the live action models.

On a related note, I'm just gonna leave this picture of Tracy Island in case anyone hasn't seen it. Looks incredible!

If the models/backgrounds look this impressive... I would've loved to see what kind of puppets this crew could've made!!!

To me this series had a lot more potential using physical puppets with cgi only used to remove strings etc. or maybe cgi mixed with puppets to make the walking etc. more fluid.

We'll see...

(Would be a lot more expensive and time consuming)

Anyone remember the cartoon, thunderbirds 2013? I think it was...

More in the vein of 70's 80's Japanese toons like starvengers or shogun warriors than it was the original Thunderbirds. I had a few episodes on VHS as a kid. I actually really liked it.

Anyway,

I too want to see what this will look like finished.

We'll see.

A look at the modelwork

Looks really impressive, but I really want a look at the CGI characters interacting with the models...
