"NEW TESB" YODA head (Completed)

I agree. I'm glad to hear that some of the wrinkles are going to be less pronounced. I think subtlety is key here. Also the area that I think need the most attention is the brow. I think it is too pointy on your sculpt and needs to be less pronounced. Also, the two ridges that go from the front of the forehead to the back of the head I think need to be less pronounced as well. They look like they stick up too much, kind of like what I see going on in the brow area.
Fantastic work. Can't wait to see it completed. I'm glad to see you taking your time to work out the bugs. It'll be worth it in the end.

Hiya... I've done a bit of work on the ears and HIS right eye and around the mouth and cheeks. I've also made the upper brow bulge up more. Heres the latest pics.

hope you dont mind Cyb but i added a bit of colour and the eyes from the original trimmed to fit your sculpt

:thumbsup :thumbsup :eek :cheers ... fantastic work - I definately need that head
to update my Yoda when they become available ... applause ... ... wow ...

Thanks guys,

All I think it needs now is a bit of subtle refinement especially around the cheeks and jowls and then it'll be about done.

I'll post the final pics on Saturday :D

Cheers

I think Yodas about there now...

After studying him from many angles I'd say he's more or less complete bar a few minor touch ups that i'd leave till the last minute before molding.

What do you think guys? Anything you can still spot?

.....Wow.....

I've never seen such an accurate Yoda sculpture in my life. That newest set of pics sent a chill down my back, and I laughed a bit. Like, that "My face has just been blown into oblivion." kind of laugh. That thing IS Yoda.

I agree with what a few people have said here: It's refreshing and somewhat bewildering that you've taken criticism and worked with it as well as you have. A lot of the time, people's observations aren't really taken to heart by the sculptor...BRAVO, Cyb.

I found this out from Nick Maley, the guy who built up the original screen Yoda Puppet and was working alongside Stuart freeborn. He told me that Stuart used water based clay and created the texture by simply pressing an old wet towel against the surface... and sure enough it works as its the very technic I've used here ;)

this is just a quick question for Cyb did you texture the skin with an orange peel, how did you do it.

I think I may have found the last main issue I have with this sculpt before its ready to complete...

here it is...

Thanks again guys for the kind words.. At the end of the day, this forum should be used as a interactive method of helping eachother out in creating the best possible results. Fair enough if we want to just show off our work for the sake of it but IMO, where this site comes into its own, its when we share in the creative processes involved in making things like Yoda.

Can't tell if it's just the angle of the comparison but take a look at his nostril placement. Sculpt looks great. I still think that the skin wrinkles and grooves are a bit sharp/too deep. Especially on the top of the head.
Can't wait to see this completed.

Hey all - today I've been fortunate enough to see this WIP sculpt in person.

All I can say is...WOW.

Seeing the thing in person, it just IS Yoda.

Simply awesome work Cyb. :thumbsup

Cyberman,

Congratulations on your scuplt an d your amazing effort to keep perfectioning it.

As per the pics you just posted, it looks like the chin shouldn't be as protuding as it is. I the original pic seems to be just in the same vertical as the eye. In your is sitting (I think) noticeably forward when compared. The ear seems so have some cuts or angles where it meets the head?

I noticed too differences in the neck buy I guess this is due to the position of the head you choose to scuplt.

Thanks again for providing such an amazing sculpt and congrats on your work.

Yeah, but Yoda's mouth is more open in that pic, which is why the tip of his chin is lower and receding further back.

That's one of the interesting things about Yoda's appearance IMO - the position of the mouth/chin area was very dependent upon Frank Oz's hand position. The whole area was movable so as the puppet 'spoke', so too did the mouth/chin area move.

Thanks guys...

Ob1al saw that I had already made quite a few more changes to this sculpt even since posting these images earlier today. The eyes are about right now and I did touch upon the idea of changing the way the chin stuck out... I'll try and sort this out tomorrow if I have enough time.

Cheers

Cyb.
