RMC is producing a new magazine in 2007.

Studio Scale Modeler Magazine will be available starting in Spring of 2007.

The first issue will be a gallery of YOUR finished studio scale models.

We need photo submissions. Resin kits, scratchbuilds; all skill levels are asked to send photos.

All models must be studio scale (BSG CGI 1/24th scale models also qualify).

Photos must be print quality digital files. Photos must be clear, in focus, well lit, and with a clean background.

Descriptions must include:
Name
E-mail address
Name of model
Kit (optional, okay if you don't want to mention the maker) or scratchbuild
Kits used
Inspiration
Special techniques
Interesting stories or background

Deadline is January 31st, 2007 or until all the pages are filled. Images not used in this issue may be used in future issues.

Modelers will be notified if there models will be featured.

There is no compensation for photos used, but at least your models will be in print.

Please post questions or e-mail me.

Please e-mail all submissions to robertburnsjr101@yahoo.com

Thank you

Cool...
How big are print quality digital files?

I've gotta 33K modem and files could take a while to send.

Most digital cameras today have enough resolution. Please set it at RAW format or the highest JPEG setting.

Lynn, if you want to send a CD, that's another option too. I'll PM my address to you.

Thank you,

Robert

What's the article focus going to be, if any, for the issues? Cuz frankly, it's relatively easy to find images of SS build-ups and goings on, and if you get into specifics about the models and what goes into them, you could step on a lot of toes.

The first issue will be all gallery photos. If there is a second issue, I'd like to get How Tos, Reviews on kits, build up reviews, closeup Reference on studio models, and more.

This all depends on how much response there is and how much support is around. If it doesn't do well, then it won't continue.

Your right, it is relatively easy to find photos on line. However that doesn't stop people from buying magazines like Fine Scale Modeler, Scale Auto, Model Cars Magazine, Tamiya Magazine, and so on.

Printed materials are important in the hobby, and they won't go away anytime soon. Plus it can bring new people into the hobby who wasn't aware of this culture before.

I don't see how people could step on toes. You pointed out we can go to websites. Is it different if the same subject matter goes in a magazine? The only thing I can think of to worry about is publishing the manufacturers company names and contact info. I'll be leaving that info out for fear of C&Ds.

I'm doing this only for the benefit of our hobby. If I feel it'll hurt it, I'll pull the plug.

What do others here think?

Please chime in.

If it's not to be, I'll be okay because I can change it to a General Sci Fi publication.

Thank you,

Robert

I say keep it Studio scale in its entirety. There is no publication for us who love all things of this nature. As for looking online, yes lots can be found and lots can be shared, even some very rare pics have been passed around here and there from peoples collections, but to have something on the shelf with nice photography, glossy pages and some kind of write up would be very welcome. I started a long time ago collecting ref shots that i printed in a folder for easy viewing while building and not at the PC, so having a back up source that stays away from the bench's overspray and resin dust etc would be great.
I cant really see any toes being stepped upon, as all work submitted is just that, submitted by the owner, the vendor of the kit can be kept anon if need be, and well scratchbuilds that doesnt really matter as its fan built, and they gave Bill George a job at ILM for that kind of action :lol
