New RPF artwork thread

re: New RPF "artwork" thread

Here's a piece I did like 8 years ago, I've gotten much better cents then.

...

Does the art have to be Sci-Fi ?

I don't like to share my sci-fi on the net.

Nice piece.

I can´t remember an agreement that it´s got to be SciFi, but since it´s the topic with the most connection to this forum, it can´t hurt.

Why would you show your pencil sketches and not any scifi on the web ? Fear of design theft and copyright infringement ? Well, if DS and Chris T. and Ramiel show their artwork, why not you as well ?

My work is kind of original. You know how you can look at most peoples work and say " I've seen something like that before" or " That kinda looks like so and so's work " . When I was younger I was very proud of my ideas, I used to go to a lot of conventions and show my work to anyone that would look. Then I noticed more that one " inspired by " my idea, making some one money. Uncool. No one else sees unless they pay. I know how that sounds and I'm ok with it. I've been working my hole life and I've never made over 50k a year, those bastards could have brought me in as a character designer.

So you work as a graphics designer ? Then I can understand the grief, but why didn´t you go after them for cr infringement ?

@Nick Daring : I think a signed and numbered RPF edition is in order, maybe a donation for a just cause in combination with cost cover for you would persuade you to do anything like that ? :$ I just love looking at those clean drawings of yours, and even more since I just got the latest Hellboy comics with two artists that I from now on will never buy a book from. I haven´t seen such hideous artwork (both pencil and linework) in a long time. And that at 2.99 per issue.
EDIT : Just got back from a visit to your site, and totally forgot that you pencilled the last catwoman series ! I always thought your artwork looked familiar ;)

Well without seeing your stuff, it's hard to say. I'm sure someone here will find someone else's work that it looks like. It always happens. :lol I posted some characters on my web page and about a year or so later I saw a cartoon on TV with a very similar design. You never know if they were "inspired" by my work but the artist who made it sure knows and that makes me happy!! Either that or my ego is so big that I think everyone want's to steal my stuff!! :lol

I never look at anyone's work while I'm concept sketching nor am I ever inspired by any other artist but sometimes I see similarities with others work. Who knows but I've found that worrying about such things is useless.

I have a million ideas so even if someone steals one of them, too bad, they will eventually get caught! By posting things, people see my work and know I did it first. I've also got a lot of freelance work this way.

QTF. And I think the main reason (besides that ingenious minds think alike) is that the influences are very similar for artists that share common interests or are of a similar age or cater to a certain audience or have a similar style.

Yah, the same everywhere, if you don´t get into the race noones gonna bet on you ;)

I personally find the artwork of many artists very important for my own development, you can´t reach a certain level without studying other people´s work and incorporate aspects of it into your own body of work that you find useful.

re: New RPF "artwork" thread

Guys, I need some Vinyl Info. I'm starting a Wolfie or Woof-Woof ( Eddie Munster's Doll) and I want to do a hard Vinyl Head, hands and feet like a real doll. PM me if you can point me in the right direction. Sorry to Hijack.

It's quite expensive. It would be cheaper to do it all in resin. China does almost all vinyl toys. I have some people that can help if that's the route you want to go.

Cool, that's what I thought, on the Chinese end, kinda hard to give the kid a 2 pound chunk of resin though. I'll figure something out.
