new robocop suit opinion *spoiler*

I can see it being used to great effect if done right. It's kept for a practical reason (his sharp shooting skills)

Surely a robot with a targeting computer in a HUD is way more accurate than a hand. Besides, bracing for recoil from a weapon is done with the whole body not just a singular hand.

Personally I think keeping the hand is a dumb idea, Having Murphy deal with his human emotions in robot form is powerful stuff by itself.

Dan.

Oh... so the filmmaker actually makes fun of the original and the fans of that original and doing it so crassly as to have it be part of the freaking new movie. How arrogant and plain self-centered moronic can you get?

"You're move, bee-atch!" *slap*

It's funny how the 80's suit, as bulky as it is, feels less like a guy in a suit than the new one.

Funny how? The old suit LOOKS more robotic, with its exposed joints and actuators and pistons etc, this, looks like a latex suit, period.

As for the hand, well, a very lame idea, id hope it wasnt a plot point, because its going to kill this movie even further.
Just imagine having an arm, that could punch a hole in a concrete wall, with a floppy fleshy human hand on the end......doesnt quite work does it.

Plus, isn't that the same hand that Clarence Boddicker blows off with a shotgun?

As for the hand, [SNIP]

Clarence isn't blowing crap away in this film...It will be rated PG and they will use ray guns that shoot rainbows.

As for the hand being used, I think it makes perfect sense, it may not be for the sole purpose of sharpshooting. It could be for small object manipulation. Typing on computers, playing rock paper scissors, etc.

And I now fully support this movie. Only because I ragged on Dredd and totally ate my words.

His hand is exposed, I'm betting, because the gun his hand turns into is a finished practical prop that is probably just a glove he slides on.

I'm really hoping the whole suit is just a placeholder for CGI that will be added in post production.

I *SINCERELY* doubt it. If so what would be the point of making it so elaborate? Guaranteed there will be some CG sweetening but don't set yourself up for more disappointment by expecting a whole new CG suit.

Notice the motion tracker bands on RDJ's costume here:

Robo would look more like this if it was going to be CG.

A little digital composit, color correction, and good sound fx,after filming is complete. Hopefully, a robot cop worthy physical acting job. That suit is gonna be awesome. Only thing I question is the human hand left over.

I really don't like the suit, Honestly it looks like rubber and has nothing to do with Robocop as we all know and love. However, there are still some important factors to consider which will make it seem a lot more real in the cinema.

Even the original suit would not of worked as well if we hadn't had the robotic "thud, thud" footsteps and the servo sounds as he moved around, hopefully that sound design will follow through to this movie.

Then we have the possibility of multiple body compartments opening up to reveal various weapons and technical goodies, if this is also done right it will really help the audience forget it's a suit and that is in in fact a machine.

I do have to say though that even if this is all pulled off with amazing fashion it will still not take my attention away from the costume design and the fact that it looks like poo.

Even the Ironman suits have the servo motor sounds and the heavy step sounds. I really really don't like how this is starting to lok like, another cruddy reboot of a classic movie by people who have no idea of what made the movie a classic in the first place.

Let's not forget one of the things that really sells the original Robocop suit--the robotic body mechanics that Peter Weller and mime coach Moni Yakim developed. If Weller walked and moved as he does normally, it wouldn't have been nearly as memorable.

Absolutely!
