New Revell light and sound Falcon

Heck, the biggest tell as to the sidewall origin being MPC is the molded in slot for the light switch which was present on the very first MPC kit. There are indeed 5 footer Falcon elements in this kit with the most obvious being the shortened cockpit nose. Overall it looks good though and not a bad deal for 20 bucks. It won't break the bank, can look great after something as simple as a more accurate paintjob is thrown on it and yet it offers possibilities for more advanced modelers to really trick it out. On thing I like is we finally... FINALLY have a Revell kit with close to proper sidewall height. So they did a nice job here.

Looking at footage of the big Revell Falcon (NOT the FM based one), it looks like it is a slightly modified version of the Revell tooling, which in turn was based on the MPC kit. So it still has the sidewalls which are too tall. But, it appears they gave it a five gear configuration on the bottom in addition to the new square dish (and probably some new rubber cockpit figures). For a price point of around $60 though, I will probably pass at least initially and may pick one up if it pops up at Hobby Lobby or a Michael's and I have access to a 40% off coupon.

I'm working on on of these little Falcons, and it really is a nice little kit. The first thing i did was to carve the cabin windows further back toward the top of the canopy, giving them some more length. I removed the vertical frame part on the two lower most windows, and moved it back, replacing it with a new section made from a thick strip of masking tape, super-glued down. This makes the cabin section look a bit longer, more like it should. Here's a pic.....I just gave it a quick coat of black to check my work. IMG_6257.JPGIMG_6258.JPG

mcusanelli : Interesting. I have ordered one myself to tinker with it, too. I'll make a cardboard interior for it. Do you have a suggestion regarding the rib structure on the strip around and behind the cockpit? Maybe carving with a knife?

I was just looking at that. I think the recess is a little bit deep, so I was going to cut a thin strip of plastic into it, and then engrave the ribs. Or, maybe it could be made from a strip of thin metal from a wine bottle top, you know the soft foil stuff, and you could probably pre-score the lines in before it gets glued down. That might be a better choice!
I might just be lazy, and engrave the recess first to see how it looks.....
I'm also going to fill in the landing gear with epoxy putty, so it's in-flight, and fix the guns like I did on my 1/72 Falcon. I might also scratch build a new round sensor dish....Not sure I want the rectangular one yet. I haven't decided what to do with the battery access hatch either. Maybe something to cover up the screw....

Does the Falcon in SW:TFA still have the same battle scars and damage as the original? I haven't seen any pics to be able to tell, and i'm getting one of the light and sound Falcons in the mail soon, and wanted to take the dremel to it and add the damage, IF it's still there.

I have a feeling we may know more tomorrow ;)

Yeah, hopefully we'll get some better shots of the old girl in the new trailer. It seems like after so many years, someone would say "Han, how about we fix those holes and blast marks on the Falcon, hmm?" Or Leia kept bugging him to fix it, as it looked bad to show up at parties or restaurants in it with the damage and rust streaks, and he refused to do it just to spite her.
