New NECA Freddy Vs Jason Mask at TRU

just picked one up, i love the chips and nicks around all the holes, very detailed! of course the center red arrow is not centered...

wtf kind of buttons are those? Look like rivets over washers

All right...I'm nearing completion of the body for my shadow box...So now I need a vote!!!

Lined in red velvet or black velvet? I'm leaning toward black, but the shadow box is also going to be black...so the red could be a nice contrast...

HELP ME RPF!!!

I would do red. It will not olnly contrast the black frame, but it will make the mask "POP". You will have a nice frame around the mask, seeing the edges and seeing the eye holes better. Plus... it will pull from the red markings on the mask. If the red looks too bright, you could always do some aging on the material to give it a worn used look. Try dry brushing or air brushing some black.... sparingly.... to give it a dirtier, older look around the edges and corners.

are the straps on this supposed to be leather with seams on either side? Doesnt look like elastic

I like black so the mask and glove don't compete with the background.....or if you had a freddy sweater that you don't mind cutting up....

It is leather with seams. Metal ring in the back and 3 buckles.

This is missing the seams, but otherwise correct.

So I happened to be in Concord, NH and the TRU there had a pile of them, so I grabbed one. Not sure if I'll end up keeping it or selling it, but figured I'd better get while the getting was good.

The quality of the mask itself (the straps are trash) really impresses me. It's very thick, and the paintjob is top notch...this really is a prop replica, not a toy. What sold me was how dark the paint is, almost wooden tones, much darker than the pics online make it appear.

So...can someone educate me/walk me through strap replacement 101?

Anyone?

Also, I'm starting to feel it's a little TOO dark...any way to minimize this without a total repaint? I suck at painting...

Nice.

Free shipping! That was the big deal breaker for most on the last mask...

TRU wanted $15- for shipping on a $20- mask!

Free shipping this time is great!

I think that's only on orders of $100. So order five and then return four to the store :lol

I just bought the Crystal Lake Memories book. Pretty excited to read that.

Yeah, I got confused by that 'free shipping' too. It's too bad you gotta spend $100, but I guess that's life.
Still waiting for mine to come in the mail - tomorrow maybe - looking foward to checking it out for myself...

that's a great book!

for removing the straps I'm just going to use a pair of wire cutters and snip the rivets... mine are on REALLY loosely, so fitting the clippers in won't be a problem.

i have to see if i've got enough scrap leather around to make new straps. i'd hate to have to buy something for this.

My dump has a swap shop that's always got skinny women's belts. I'll just snag one of those. I probably won't go FvJ accurate, but rather one of the simpler, non-adjustable t-strap confugurations from one of the other films. As long as it's accurate to some movie somewhere, I can live with that. I won't do a FvJ costume either, but more likely a remake, so...

A guy on frightstuff.com came up with an easy way to hang a hockey mask. Just oop some thread around the strap connections so it goes across the back. Then you can just hang it on a hook. I did that and it looks great!

I'm on the fence on this one. Should I buy this and make it screen accurate or go by a blank and start it off right? Decisions, decisions......

AND for $20, you could always get TWO - one to keep as-is, another to strip and repaint...and THEN buy some of those great blanks, which are also inexpensive.
Hock mask painting seems to be a fun little hobby to get into and reselling the masks on the bay or in the JY seems to be a good little side project for those who are skilled in painting masks....
As always, don't forget to post pictures!! I'm getting my VS Hock tommorrow (according to the FedEx tracking) so I may be getting up bright and early to wait for the delivery guy!

I like to unsnap the top strap and slide a D ring on for hanging. Tandy has them in black chrome that look nice.

Here is an example on a Neca that I re did (not screen accurate)

and one hanging from a D ring on a machete.
