New Doctor Who Sonic Screwdriver

This is post about my 4th Doctor-like Sonic Screwdriver, but as I would imagine it updated for the latest Doctor, since in Day of the Doctor episode the 4th Doctor makes an appearance as the caretaker of the museum.

My better half bought me a usable 11th doctor sonic screwdriver which comes with light and sound effects, but also comes with actual screwdriver bits inside, and is usable as a real screwdriver. While the 11th doctor character is great an I probably like him best in the new series, with the Christmas 2013 special and 2014 advent of the new doctor (12th Doctor - or 13th depending on if you count the War Doctor between 8 and 9), and because I really like the 4th Doctor from the previous series run, I had the thought to create a working 4th Doctor type Sonic Screwdriver (and because I didn't find any 4th Doctor working screwdrivers complete with bits). On short notice, this is what I came up with. Just like my 11th Doctor Sonic uses screwdriver bits, this 4th Doctor Sonic uses a swivel ratchet, making this sonic more versitile and updated from the original 4th Doctor sonic. I'd love to see the newest Doctor use something like this, especially since they brought back the 4th Doctor for a short scene in The Day of the Doctor.

Also, this 4th-Doctor-like Sonic but with Swivel/Rotary head, could be thought of as either transitioning from the 4th Doctor style old series sonics vertical orientation, to the newer series where you point the sonic lengthwise. Or, it could be thought of as a new Sonic (even if somewhat retro) that gives the best of both worlds.

Ok, enough info and run-on sentences. Here's some pics:

The handle has room for small batteries and sound/LED, so I hope to add that later. And when the spring comes and my garage warms up, work on this some more (paint and all).

I think that looks fantastic! I do like the swiveling head. I can't wait to see how it will look with a coat of paint.

Nice work :thumbsup I think you should make the slit a bit wider, it looks a bit "accidental" for me now.

Wanted to comment earlier, just forgot abouit it. I think the texture is a bit too much and it has an unfinished feel. As a design it doesn't look clean for me.
Have you thought about maybe adding some black leather to the handle? Leather has it's own texture, so it wont be dull but it could look elegant.
How about connecting the "pull down" part with the emitter? So if you pulled it down the head would point upwards, pull it back and the head would stand horizontal.
Just my 2 cents.

Thanks for your good thought on this. Actually, I was thinking about adding something like that, but it also seemed to me that something sophisticated like a sonic should have internal control of that, rather than an outside mechanism, so I gave up on that idea. If I do ever come up with a working version of that, I will post.

Well done and very cool looking.

Thank you. :)
