I've been busy reworking the 2 open areas,.....thing is when I started these I was just trying to improve the open areas that were on the Hasbro Falcon,....using parts similar that was on the 32".......now I'm going back and refining the details,......I'm not going 100%,....because I don't have all the original parts,....but I'm trying to make it closer to the 32" using whats in my parts box

Very nice John!!!

Yes, it is!!!

The very first one. I've bought it... 36 years ago!!!! :eek

That's awesome... I remember it being the first falcon I built... and then getting one later on and seeing the horizontal hole cut in the back sidewall and realizing it was molded from the same mold as that original with the lights, because that's where the switch went. Just really sucked that they didn't keep up with the whole lighted kit in later production lines. I envy you!

Really? They had the falcon with light up back side in 1977/78? You know...it's funny.. I don't think I ever even saw the falcon model in the stores until JEDI. Then again I was a little kid...I only got a DARTH VADER and c3po/r2 model kit back then. Basically the 2 worst models :)

MILLENNIUM FALCON MPC DETAIL.jpg

No engine grille, no engine nozzles, no blue light, no led... MPC 1978.

Watch the light switch lever on the right rear backwall...

It was the very first edition that came out of the falcon. It came with like 5 light bulbs, a battery holder (that went where the large cargo bay is on the bottom) and a sliding dongle switch that fit in the slot on the rear right panel near the engine. The bulbs would lite the engines, the boarding ramp, the cock pit and the gun well when completed. It wasn't very good and quite elementary, but when you're 8 years old and you can make a falcon that lights up it was the best thing in the world! They stopped adding the lights, but the kits since then are all the same from that original mold because you still get the slot on the back rear panel where the switch goes and the cargobay on the bottom still inserts the same way. You could remove that to insert the batteries. If I remember correctly, at the top of the boarding ramp was a clear piece of plastic as well because that's where one of the bulbs went. The switch was really rudimentary. There was this small block that had two brass brads where the wires would wrap around. The switch was simply just a flat piece of plastic that looked like a small popcicle stick with a brass button at the end. It was attached in the middle to allow it to swing back and forth. The button when it made contact with both the brass brads on the block completed the circuit and the lights came on. Was my first electrical device I ever made!

I remember that light up Falcon model fondly. I thought it was a kick ass model back then and looking back it has a nostalgic feel about it. One great feature about that model was the box itself which had a great image of the REAL Falcon on it as well. How times have changed now.

I know how models haven't gotten so much better than they used to be....Dads MF....was cool....I guess cause the switch came out so far and wasn't almost noticeable. I guess it to me seemed tacky....like you said it looked like a popsicle stick , just hanging out the side to slide....but he has had so many hundereds og models that are original ( closet full and extra bedroom full of models and such )......LOL... , I guess thru the years , I don't pay attention to all that stuff he has got, because like I said , so many improvements were made with the model hobbies today....I never really look at all the old stuff anymore !!!

I built a couple of those... I broke out my super 8 camera (grandfathers actually) and filmed it as I taped fire crackers to it and blew them off... I cover the thing in dirt, blew it up , crashed it into the garden (my stand in for an alien worlds plant-life) and into the Pool... No wonder I had to build several... :D Totally inaccurate - totally "FUN".

You described the fate of all my child hood models. Good times.

Now the cops would be called and the kid would be arrested for making a bomb.

Back on topic.....has FZ offered his resin sidewalls yet? Somebody PM me when he does hahahah.
