New BMF coming

kokkari, Marc, don't forget to post hi-res shots for us so we can see if it does hold big potential as a poor man's prop. If you can start with a top view so we can see the toe-in of the mandibles that would be great! And, of course, the bottom view so we can see what the cannon-less, landing-gear-less (but hopefully not hollowed out) bottom looks like.

That's the easy part. Use the force. And if that fails use your imagination. Isn't that what these toys, with absolutely no play value, are all about?

Maybe it's a Hasbro experiment to see if large cheap toys with less play value are going to sell better than expensive toys with all the doohickeys.

Well I got the Falcon today. I definitely have mixed feelings.

The Bad:
It's only 28inches long, so all the side wall details will have to be scratch built.
Most of the side walls are included stickers
The landing gear and the gun on the bottom are molded on , which is ridiculous.
The inside of the jaw boxes are hollow.
No landing ramp
Detail on top of the cockpit looks flat

The Good:
The proportions look pretty good
The mandibles toe in
A lot of the detail is acurate
It looks like it's easy to open up
It's light as a Frisbee

Pictures to follow...

The more I look at it I think it's got some potential. I won't have to tear a bunch of it apart and rebuild like the BMF, mostly just adding a lot of detail and getting rid of the landing gear. The biggest bummer in my opinion is that it's not bigger.

Hmmm yes the potential is there but I think any detail added has to be scratch built. I don't think this is large enough to use actual donor kits like the BMF. 4in makes a significant difference. Strange that they molded the gun on the bottom and NOT the top. I did not the inside of the jaw boxes now has molded detail whereas before it showed the detail as stickers.

Thanks kokkari for the photos.

Thanks for the pics, it looks pretty good. The bottom details may be weak but at least it has a bottom, unlike the new large X-Wing. Lots of potential here.

The hull shape, proportions, and cockpit capsule match the 5 footer pretty well, but the details are patterned mostly from the 32 incher. I would want a 5 footer ANH style, and most of the detail needs to be redone anyway, so this is not a problem for me.

Would the 28in length put it close to 1/48? Seems about right.

I quite like what I see, given the price tag. I am sure a lot of these will be turned into pretty nice models!

Sidewall height doesn't look bad either. Definitely has potential. Maybe some 3D printed parts?

Yea, there's no way you are using original doner parts on this one. Gonna have to be scratch or 3d printed.

look at the size of that thing!

i expected it to be worse, the sidewall is really the only major issue. maybe someone would make a kit with landing gear, bottom gun, and sidewall detail.
