....or I've got a very fine fibre optic light I bought in a pound shop:

,.....I thought it might be useful for lighting, but it really is too fine,.....I actually use strands to clear the nozzle of my Revell poly glue:

.....strands could be layed in the recessed lines, then a silicone mould could be made of that.....without loosing too much detail

I see somebody mentioned my 50-50 Camo and Light Gray mixture and that is likely what I will use for this new Falcon as well. One thing I want to mention though is it seems Testors in their (again) short sided wisdom seems to have discontinued Camo gray from the Model Master line. I believe it can still be found in spray can form and possibly in the Acryl line, but not the enamel line. Very stupid on their part given how many aircraft models use that shade for south east Asia camo schemes and how many SF modelers have used it for space ship base coat colors out of the bottle. So if you want to do the 50-50 mixture with the enamels, don't wait.

For international modelers, at least the FS shades can be found in Gunze Sangyo's Mr. Color paint line and possibly the Aqueous Color line. I can't get them where I am, although I may try to order some if my own Camo gray supply gets dangerously low. At least Model Master Light Gray is still around.

Okay, I finally broke down and ordered one of these.

I have 3 MPC Falcons I've been hanging on to since the 90s because I always wanted a good display model but this one is bigger, already more detailed and will require less work to get it how I want it to look.

Walmart must have their Christmas shippments in because I ordered it online, selected in store pick-up, and it's ready for me already now.

I was going to primer in grey and then mist over in white til I got it the off white colour and let the weathering do the rest :)

Does Model Masters Camouflage Gray work for the Star Destroyers, AT AT, AtSt, X wings, etc??

Honestly they all look the same.

Is there a decent rattle can option for the off white route?

Try Montana Gold spray paints. I listed some suggestion colours earlier on in the thread....can't remember what they are and i',m too lazy to find out haha. anyway they have a paint chart PDF on their site, it was an off white i was recommending i think

Who is making resin side walls for this?

Mike Salzo will be offering resin cast copies of Tony's 3D printed masters for the sidewalls, canons, landing gear, etc Tony is also getting ready two new nose cones to go along with his complete cockpit interior, one stock length and one 5mm extended version. Johnnycrash on SSM will be offering PE engine mesh as well.

For rattle can paint, I heard Tamiya Insignia White over a black primer for the X-Wing, which looks pretty "Star Wars White Ship" to me on my MPC X-Wing. I was not thrilled at how many cans I needed for one stupid X-wing, and I would be terrified of the cost of base paint alone going that route for a something this big though.
.
Side note, I saw the Disney diecast ships yesterday, including the Falcon (bought the Star Destroyer, and kicking myself for not picking up a Falcon, even though the paint is actively, aggressively, in-your-face bad, and somehow almost all of them had damaged radar dishes, including CHUNKS missing out them - figure that one out) and, is it just me, but between this one and that Disney one, do the new Falcon toys coming out suddenly seem to be using some pretty reasonable dimensions in comparison to previous offerings?

Doesn't seem to be, which seems odd as it's an official military colour I thought. I did what I could to research it over the summer, and found some very comprehensive sites that listed both hex and Pantone codes for a ton of companies - couldn't find anything close though. Looks GREAT on your CORT though, and, yeah, my crappy standard MPC X-wing sucked up a can and a half of the stuff. This monster? At ten bucks a can, I don't even want to know. Luckily I've asked Mrs Thekid to let Santa know I've been really, really good this year and would please please please like an airbrush for Christmas :)

Guys,

At work at the minute and sourced some plastic for my rear LED lit strip exhaust/thruster. Whats the dimensions i need to cut this to again so its a snug fit??

Obviously, my Falcon is at home but ive got my workshop here to quickly get it done for fitting tonight :)

Cheers

Wow thanks for the link, Lear60man! Why does it seem like the ILM modelers didn't employ pre-shading on the Falcon? Almost like they just gave it a thick coat of gray straight away on those small parts, with shading sprayed on afterwards. With all those nice detailed parts one would think they could've sprayed black first so that shadows can be built in. One thing I love too on the 5-footer are the frayed plating edges. Those dents really make it a hunk of junk.
