New BMF coming

Hello all. I just wanted to say "hi" to everyone and introduce myself. I have been watching this tread since I heard about the release of this falcon. Now that I am coming close to completing my first attempt, I thought now would be a good time to join. Having owned the Master Replicas version, and regretting the sale of it for years, this will have to fill the void it has left in my heart...lol. I have no previous experience with detailing models or painting and weathering them...this attempt has been strictly for practice purposes and definitely reflects it. Having made many...MANY mistakes and learning from them, I have no doubt my second falcon will turn out far better than this one...(by the way... I have 5 more in their boxes to work on in the future). I am encouraged with the results so far and will be making the finishing touches on it soon. It won't be 100 complete as some of the mistakes hold no chance of correcting on this one. Trial and error... it's the best way to learn something. Anyhow, here are some pics of the ship so far, let me know what you think. Constructive criticism is always
welcome and will be appreciated for the next build.

Yep, it says in his description of contents that the bays can be used in conjunction with the ShapeWays gears,...sorry for the confusion

Yep, been having that problem, too. That or takes me to the "More Reply Options" page and when I go to post, it says I can't as it's a ''duplicate post.''

Finished Streaking the upper Disc ...I think I might have gone a bit heavy on the Rust :p, never mind its a hunka junk anyway.
And I had another Fup...masking the Nosecone some paint was ripped off..and had to Respray it, getting the right color now is gonna be a real pain as it was weathered and ready to go.
Will do the lower disc later and then apply Pigments and what have you.

Now that looks just insane, you do have the thing just right there :)

I've got a bunch of ceramic magnets that I was planning on using to keep the halves closed. That is a good idea to use some for light holes!
I bought some loctite, says it can glue polypropylene right on the bottle and some milliput for the holes. Couldn't find much else to stick to this plastic.. I'm going to do some tests in the next couple days...

I'm not too keen on filling the holes just yet just it case it needs to come apart again. I thought about making them into landing lights that can be removed when needed. Just an idea for now though.

I think magnets is the way to go,....especially if theres lighting etc in there,.....screwing it together & filling up the holes sounds too risky

Yeah I think so, I got them at Ace Hardware. I have a lot from my Boba Fett suit, before I decided to attach my armor with bolts.
I trimmed off all the cut-out areas of the hull with a Dremel.(which did a good job, but the cut edges needed to be cleaned up with an exacto blade.) I will be glueing the scrap cut pieces together to test if the loctite really will hold this plastic together !

Hey, "J" on a related note, picked up a couple of the Wizards of the Coast Star Wars game "Chewie" & Wookie figures and can vouch that they are (as previously noted) spot-on for size, well sculpted & perhaps better than the Bandai figure (which isn't too shabby, either.) The other WotC figures can be pretty variable RE: sculpting and 'scaling' issues (such as the Leia as 'Senator' figure - the one holding a blaster pistol upright - too short and a head that is way too small for the figure...plus the head is also too narrow, but how good a likeness can we expect from a gaming figure anyway?) However, there are many opportunities offered by the range so cannot discount 'em. I'll try and get some pix psoted of the ones I've purchased so everyone has an idea of what to expect.

My hope is that I can recast & Frankenstein 'em (cut up for parts & as armatures) in epoxy. I also found another source for this was in the large "Six for $5" box of Clik /Helix type figs at the local comic / gaming store. Some of these figures have superior facial sculpts, though they tend to the 'larger stature' spectrum for 1:48 due to the 'hero' proportions often used. Strangely, the best sculpts are the female figures which tend to not have obscuring masks or helmets like the male figures. I suppose this is a good thing since there are plenty of male 'heads' from both injection plastic & resin military figure sets.

Like the Hasbor MF, the soft pliable plastic used for all these figures presents challenges & would make direct modification more difficult so, again, pushing me to recasting. Good thing most are inexpensive to help balance the additional casting material costs!

Regards, Robert
Hi Robert, I'm going to try Frankenstein (I love that btw) these hasbro command figures to fit in the cockpit, they were cheap €11 for 11 figures approx , not very sharp but I am hoping customisable

Vacformed, I looked at those too! They remind me of the wonderfully sculpted figures that came with a Star Wars chess set I got my kids one year... I'm suspicious they are 're-pops' from that same tooling. However, they are too large for the Hasbro MF model (toy?), being closer to 1:32 scale, though there are definite variations. I like them as 3D references and as possible candidates for some figure painting fun... so not perhaps a complete waste of my money! ;^P

To illustrate just how much variance there is in the WotC figures, the 'Death Star Protocol Droid' scales out at 6 foot (again, everything in the assumed 1:48 scale) while the (better sculpted) C3PO figure is only 5 foot tall. Both are supposed to be the same height, having a common body "plan". So, one is slightly too large and the other is too small (Anthony Daniels was (is?) 5'-9" tall, so you'd surmise in costume he'd top at least 5'-10" or 11"...) I was thinking of chopping off the DS 'insectoid' head and putting the C3PO head on instead but it is noticeably too small. So, I'll have to sculpt my own head at the very least.

Sigh!

I suppose, between all us mad scientists, we'll get 'em done!

The WOTC figures are what I plan on using. The Hasbro falcon works out near 1/48 and these figures are around 1/50~1/60 by my guesstimation... I know they "look right" standing next to the ship... or on it... or in it :) with the fuzz on the scales of both its tough to be certain but they pass the eyeball test :)
