Are you sure about that? What have you tried? One of the keys to building muscle is eating the right food. Weight lifting alone won't do it.
I'm the middle guy in the top pic. That's how I look after 6 months. Before that my chest was flat as a board and I had no muscle definition.
Also keep in mind, not every Spartan was as big as Leonidas.
I actually eat very well, and very balanced meals. I go through phases each Summer where I eat really healthy, walk, run and work out, but it only lasts maybe a month. I've done this for years and know that I just don't have the dedication and desire to get really buff. I'm partially more sedentary, and enjoy drinking lots of beer, so you know what that means. BEER GUT. (but even with that I only have a 33in waist)
But, I totally dig how this endeavor is focused more on your actual physical shape and not solely the accuracy of your costume. I've always felt that unless you have the same size and shape as the character you're going to portray, you shouldn't do it.
