Need your opinion: Vader Icons Lightsaber

Hi guys!

I'm a huge fan of Vader. I would really like to start a small (and specific) collection, nothing too big or too fancy.

I know also that I'm several years late and most of the beautiful pieces will prob. cost me a lot.

I was lucky (I think :confused) to get an Attakus Vader I recently which is considered as the holy grail of Vader. This is by far the best Statue I ever saw of him. I really like the presence of Vader, which looks dark and threathing and all this, WITHOUT a lightsaber!! But this piece was ... expensive.

I was now hoping to put my hands on a lightsaber.

I'm looking to have a 1:1 replica of Vader. They are severals on the market, mainly Master Replicas (MR). I found that there's actually 4 MR Vader lightsabers (ANH, ESB, ROTJ and ROTS (SE or LE) ) but I also found yesterday that there's an ANH ICONS Vader lightsaber (SE and LE also)! But I can't find much discussion on the subject.

I was about to buy an ANH MR and finally, found for about the same price an ICONS signature Edition (James Earls Jones) and don't know what to do. I've looked around and it seems decent as a replica.

It is worth it to get the Vader Icons lightsaber?

What about the quality? Pics I've found looks decent.

And how much a fair price would be?

I know that best items and replica props are the one that you personally love, period. And this is my philosophy. I'm looking only at things that I truely love.

Still, your opinions and guidance would be a +. :)

Any help would be appreciated. thx!

The ICONS Vader saber is very inaccurate but it was a great first step in the replica prop process.

It was based on a Heiland flash and not the correct MPP. It only has 6 grips instead of the correct 7. The midband and clamp are completely wrong. The shroud is somewhat decent.

The ICONS had collector value, but honestly if you pay more then $150 you're probably paying too much.

The MR is almost accurate save a few minor details and the inaccurate 6 grips.

For real accuracy you should either look for a real MPP, a Larbel, or buy a second-hand Parks MPP from someone here on the RPF and add the grips and an accurate Rebelscum bubble strip.

James do you have idea of a real MPP price?
I was thinking about a parks replica and add elements myself, but I don't know if it's possible to find a real MPP for a quite reasonnable price...
What are differences betwen the 3:real,larbel and parks?
I know something about the emitter wall thickness, but what else?

Definitely pass on the Icons saber.
If you want a saber that is already complete and ready to display, then I recommend the MR.

If you really want something even more accurate without having to track down all the expensive found parts (real MPP and exactra bubble strip), here is my suggestion.

Be patient and find a parks replica MPP. (i've seen them sell anywhere from $90-$150)

To accessorize it, all you will need is a Rebelscum bubble strip and my t-track grips.
Here is a thread in the Junkyard for the t-track

In total it should cost around $200-$250 for a very accurate finished piece.

First off do you like to build or like to buy pre-made??

If you want it already done then go with the MR. Personally I think the bubble strip and grips are overpriced for my budget and there are cheaper parts available and the average person will not be able to tell the difference.

I have all 3 ICONS sabers (Luke, Vader, Obi-Wan). They were the first prop replicas I owned. They came out not in the late 90s. I was a teenager at the time and I remember putting them on my Christmas list. My parents bought me Luke and Vader I think. I bought Obi-Wan at Celebration I to complete the trifecta.

Since then, I amassed a much bigger collection, but sold them all recently...except the 3 ICONS sabers. True, they're not as accurate as some on close inspection (though I've never seen any conclusive evidence of the 7-grip theory and frankly it defies all logic) but they were my first, so I kept them. The clamp lever is probably the biggest flaw...its just a piece of metal screwed to the side of the box. The shroud isn't bad, though its missing the detail inside. The grips are hard plastic rather than rubber. The Obi-Wan and Luke sabers are much better.

If you're looking to purchase, I'd go with the MR. MR made like 10,000 of the ANH I think...so it shouldn't be that difficult to find, nor that expensive.
