I'm having the hardest time getting these hinges to stay painted. I thought I finally had it with this last time. I started to close the door and bam it scrapped off again. Does anyone have any tips on how to get this right?

Also, what is the best way to get a nice finish on these pieces?

I finally understand why these tricorders cost so much to buy prebuilt.

I'd just leave the hinge unpainted. It's never going to keep the paint, it's always going to start chip after some use. Better to leave it unpainted instead of having to look at chipped paint start to accumulate.

Well it's rubbing where the paint is wearing, a slight sanding might be needed as the paint is adding thickness. Otherwise I'd do a Kerr advises.

But remember anything you remove can't be put back easily.

Have you tried applying a good clear coat or shellac? That might help some although it probably won't protect it permanently but it should keep the paint from chipping off constantly.

Check it out, looks pretty good I think.

So far so good, opens and closes without any issues.
