Need Some Help: A Christmas Story Display**Updated WIth Finished Display 12/22**

I've picked up a Red Ryder BB gun and I have some old directions on modding it into something more screen accurate. I also picked up a nice shadow box for the display 50% off from Hobby Lobby, it is for jerseys and the like but my RR will fit nicely into it. It looks kind of like this:

The problem I have run into is that I am at a total loss for what else to put into the display. I would like to get a small poster of the dvd artwork (I don't care for the original theatrical poster) but I am having a hard time locating a small version. I was also thinking about the Red Ryder ad if I could find one. I am hoping the creative people on this board can help me out with some ideas...

There's always the Little Orphan Annie decorder ring (Drink your Ovaltine!), and the Leg lamp. Pics or screencaps could be used as filler... :)

Re: Need Some Help: A Christmas Story Display

I found a pretty cool pic of Ralphie holding "Ole Blue" a while back. It's a b&w pic but you might like it. I'll see if I can find it.

What about the
1. Tongue on the flag pole image
2. Bar of Soap
3. Glasses with cracked lense
4. A copy of Ralphie's Chrismas Theme, "What I want for Christmas..."
5. The teeth that the teacher takes away from the class
6. Something to do with the "Bunny Suit"
7. The telegram for the special award

If I think of anything else, I will get back to you.

Oh, I thought of some more...

1. Vintage Wizard of Oz images (Parade), Disney images too
2. Scatter the bolts in the display for the infamous, "Oh...Fuuudge" scene.
3. Scatter some of the white cushy stuff that Ralphie lands in after seeing Santa
4. Floating yellow eyes (I swear he had yellow eyes!!!)
5. Christmas tree needles and throw in the twine for tying the tree to your car
6. Red Cabbage (How? No idea)
7. A picture of Ralphie pounding on Scut Fargus with the reaction of the kids, "Did you hear what he said?"

I say less is more. If you can get a large size print of the red ryder ad, mount it in the frame with the rifle. Then if you happen to have a leg lamp, hang the frame near the lamp. Anybody with a half an ounce of brains will make the connection.

Re: Need Some Help: A Christmas Story Display

If it helps, the Little Orphan Annie Decoder Badge was the 1940 version. :) They pop up on eBay from time to time. Of course, because of the movie, they're usually not cheap. The lowest I've seen was $70.

If you go to the official website you can buy a damn good metal replica of the decoder. My girlfriend got me one last year and it's fantastic. I think it was 15.00 shipped.

Re: Need Some Help: A Christmas Story Display

If you want the less is more approach, you could tear up pieces of Christmas paper and ribbon as a back drop for the gun.

Re: Need Some Help: A Christmas Story Display

Start out with one of these to place in the display and put a few bb holes in it yourself :love

I agree with Gigatron keep it simple you have alot of little toys and props you can display with your RR.I'm sure you can make it look great with what you have to work with.

P.S "Don't Shoot Your Eye Out Kid"

I finished the display and presented it to my wife for her birthday, she was thrilled and I was relieved! It could have been better, but I am pleased with the end result. Thanks to everyone for all of the great suggestions!

I wonder if my uncle still has his Red Ryder BB Gun from when he was a kid.:angel
