Need ideas for a rocket pack - might be OT

I have gotten involved with a small Indy film group that is gearing up for shooting a spec pilot. Long story short, near the middle of the script, one of the characters stumbles upon "The evil lair" and finds a rocket pack.
I was torn with either a "Rocketeer" inspired unit or a more practical approach of the traditional NASA like "rocket belt" that we have all seen on TV. I even think it was on the Six Million Dollar Man way back when. Anyway, director didn't like either exactly, but liked elements of both. I've thrown 3 sketches out so far. Anybody artistic enough to post a few ideas?
Who knows, you may get you name in the credits.

i love this subject and think i will try one myself since one could easily be built using PVC pipe and fittings.

my thoughts are you have to decide if it is to be used in space or on a planet....

technicaly,,, in space there is no drag so a jet pack with the rockets behind you would still push you in a straight line. like the rocketeer unit which would not work in atmosphere as it was shown. it would have flipped him forward on his face. :lol
in atmosphere you would need the nozzles to be at you side to balance your body mass,,, such as the real jet pack type units.
