I plan to sculpt a roughly 1:1.5 scale wall-mounted Chort head from The Witcher 3, and even at the smaller scale it stands to be around 1200mm wide (4 feet). The eyes would be impossible to buy from a taxidermy stockists because they will be huge, probably around 100mm/4in.
I am happy to construct the 3 eyes myself but since the scale is so large, I am unsure which would be the best way to make them - some I have seen are constructed of a solid acrylic half-sphere with the iris pattern glued flat behind it whereas others are just painted on a sphere with a thick, transparent resin on the surface. I haven't much experience in this area so I hoped that someone could tell me which is likely to appear more realistic at such a large scale (or perhaps there's another method - I feel as though the acrylic sphere would magnify the image behind it too much because of its size, but the other method may look unrealistic or a very large amount of transparent resin may be needed. For reference, I expect that the diameter of the visible portion of the eye will be around 70mm/3in.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
