I just painted my Master Chief Helmet last saturday so I would have
ready for the ODST tour truck that came thru Cleveland last Sunday.

Now that I have it painted I wanted to start putting in a cooling fan
so I thought that I would ask for input from my fellow RPF members.

such as a source for the fans, and any input on the install

Thanks for your help

I use PC fans in my Vader that are hooked up to 9v batteries. I usually take them out of old computers here at school that have died.

As far as installing I just used industrial strength velcro on the corners of the fans and on the battery holders. I'm not sure how you'd do the Master Chief but it's nice if you have one that's pulling the hot air out and one the blows cool air in.

I happen to belong to the garrison of the owner/operator of Skullworx. You may, or may not have heard of him, but Skullworx was a helmet cooling system that combined two computer fans wired and a speaker/mic system up to a 9-volt battery sources. This was mostly for Storm Trooper helmets, but it was modified for other helmets, as well.

Sadly, it is going out of business. But the thing is that all the parts you could get from your local Radio Shack.

I don't know if it is allowed to post a link that would show a pic of what I am talking about, due to it being a direct link to a vendor. Sorry, I haven't been on the forum enough to know if it is appropriate, or not. So, I will send you the link in PM.

But is is pretty easy. A couple of those low-cost CPU fans from Radio Shack, some wire and a battery box (or 9-volt plug) and you would be in business (for cooling system only). Or you could do the velcro method, as previously mentioned. Of course, hot gluing the fans and a battery box in place, you wouldn't have to worry about velcro losing integrity, or having to put new velcro on a new battery when it comes time for replacement.

Hope that helps, or at least reaffirms what you are after.

I strongly suggest not to glue the fan into the helmet .. that way, you won't have the fibration of the fan that would make a lot of inside noise.

For my TK helmet, I padded the fan then velcroed it in the helmet .. check out my setup here.

Also, I use a PC fan on a 9V battery .. used a battery case too so that I had my on/off switch directly on the case to switch it on and off .. no need for an external extra switch.
