Hi folks,

Wanna start in the beautiful world of fiber optic lightning. Having a Korbanth SSD coming in. First, I want to try out on a smaller (and cheaper :lol) model, an MPC Star Destroyer model.

First off, I was looking for FO wires. Found this :

$42.21 - Fiber Optic Wires (2-Meter / 200-Wire Pack) - LED Gadgets

It says to be a 0.84mm. Would it be too big? 'cause deal seems good (200 strands, 2 meters long).

Any other places on the Net I should take a look into?

About drill bits, there's few on Ebay. Any quality ? What would you advice me?

I know, it is a long road but if any1 has any links, tutorials or advices, it would be appreciated!

Thx!

Hi,

neat project you are looking into.

To help you get it off the ground I took the liberty to change your thread title to something more selfexplanatory.

I'm not sure on the size or best place to get the micro drill bits. ( I'm actually looking to do this for my MPC star destroyer as well and that fiber optic bundle was on my list of things to get)

I'd was going to look through some jewelry supply catalogs (Rio Grande) or the MicroMark catalog. Based on what others have said, you need several of the bits as being that small you'll break at least one or two while drilling all those holes

These things look good all lit up. It is a lot of work getting to that point.
I have one that I am looking to do the same after I find some upgrade parts for it. Also have the Republic Star Destroyer that will have fiber optics.
So, I will be watching this thread. I love seeing this stuff.
Good luck and have fun with it!

Hobby Town has a wide assortment of micro drill bits. Their prices are reasonable and they also carry the drill bit handles for the bits. This is where I got the bits that I am using on Polar Lights Forbidden Planet C57D saucer. P.S. Harbor Freight has a selection of micro drill bits as well. WOLFMANN
