NECA "Big Chap" 22 inches Alien figure

Hi everyone,

I have just received my new NECA Alien action figure and although this is old news for most people I thought i'd share a few pictures to show how good it is :

It's a VERY big guy standing an impressive 22" (55cm) upstraight. Sculpting, painting and overal detailing is awesome, and with over 18 points of articulation you can strike great poses out of it.

It has an opening mouth with a (manually operated) inner jaw as well as a long and heavy bendable tail.

It stands very well on its own in most poses and the tail is very useful to balance the weight properly.

It comes in pieces so you have to attach the back hoses and legs, which is quite a pain in the butt. The hoses fit nicely and snugly but the legs require a lot of twisting and pushing. Using hot water helps tremendously.

Overall it's an amazing replica of the original Alien and at $50 it's a great value for money as well. I have it displayed on top of my PC case, and it's ready to strike fear in the heart of any guests daring to look at it.

HIGHLY RECOMMENDED ! (y)thumbsup:thumbsup

Pretty awesome... and I might get one to modify, but when will they get the face/head right?

• The skull doesn't have that "Army of Darkness" frown to the eye sockets - it's a straight up human skull.

• The head's shell was smoky, or silvered, depending on the light - this one looks transparent towards the sides/top, which a lot of replicas seem to do.... it needs to look live a silvery gray/brown cockroach

But easily fixable on this particular one, and $50 is a good price!

It's a great bargain, and pretty accurate compared to far more expensive options out there.

I love mine.

There was a more frosted variant that came out later, which is the one in my pic.

But you can frost your own dome easily enough with clear dullcoat.
I'm not sure I am comfortable with the above sentence. LOL

Hell I'm SOLD if that pic you posted is the same toy - awesome. And I have like a half case of Dullcote at the moment, lol... it's as important as salt or pepper is in my house - VITAL INGREDIENT!

I also used a product called Bare Metal Foil on the teeth.
Very thin adhesive actual metal, then coated them with clear gloss to seal and make look slobbery.

I can't seem to get mine to stay in a standing position. And everytime he falls over, it seems that much more difficult!

Yep, the box says 18" but in reality it's closer to 22".

And yeah, the dome is almost completely transparent which is not accurate.
It might ruin the whole figure for some people but I can live with it.

Which reminds me, instead of coating it with a spray, why not gently sanding it down with 0000 grit sandpaper? It should make it much more opaque without having to be afraid of paint chipping. I might give it a try at some point.

@moffeaton : The eye sockets are perfectly round with no frown whatsoever, it's just the random fogging of the dome that makes them look that way.

All in all this figure is, in my opinion, superior to the Hot Toys release. For 1/3 of the price you get a figure almost twice as big and VERY well detailed.
Obviously the build quality is not as good as HT's but considering the price tag i'd go with the NECA figure anyday of the week.

No matter what they say, size does matter and this slimy drooling giant cockroach is an impressive beast :thumbsup

I thought about getting one in the past, but kinda gave upon it, and this thread now only made my desire come back again!

Watch out though, there a lot of flawed figures out there, even if they are still brand new in box.

The one i'm showcasing here is the second one I bought. The first one I had to send back because the head fell off as soon as I pulled it out of the package. It was factory sealed but :

- The neck post was broken
- The dome was scuffed
- It had nasty spots of brown paint all over it
- The plastic was very "greasy"

So I sent it back for a refund and ordered a new one from another store.

The new one was almost perfect, it only had half a dozen spots of white paint on the head and tail, which I easily removed with a wet Q-tip and my fingernail. Other than that it's perfect.

Thanks for the heads up ;) I'll bare it in mind!
Especially thanks for the picture with the apple..Very good for a size reference! :)

I'm sold on almost any Alien toy since the kenner one back in 1979. I have seen that one on ebay and was thinking about it. Want to get that dripping teeth look...very cool
