NECA 2009 $20 Jason Mask - Review

I think this will end up as one of those props with multiple versions made for the screen.???

That elastic might be a short piece cut and wrapped around the end to re-enforce the snap????

Now that I see this new picture, that top strap is definitely looking more like a nylon strap. The side straps are defintely elastic though.

Here is another mask pic from the promos....

huh..the stripe weathering is SLIGHTLY different, but there look at the top strap, its going the length like a normal elastic strap...wtf.

this is where mine was at. before the krylon crystal clear anyways... :cry

One of many reasons I threw all my Krylon paints out. Looked good though, dude. Very subtle.

Here are the two I'll be painting up for people. The one on the left is the factory finish, the one on the righ I rubbed down with a rag dampened with acetone. It all comes off very very easily in case anyone needed to know. I'll be starting the paint work within the next few days.

Thanks man, I'll be restarting it tomorrow, I might strip it down again tonight tho. These masks are actually quite durable. I dropped mine and expected it to shatter but it was fine, not even a dent in the resin.

I added 1" elastic.It is much better.

Also I found a 1" D ring slipped on the upper strap makes a nice way to hang it.

I just got mine the other day at TRU.. 'Only 2 left on the shelves when I went"....
I'll probably leave mine as is though, for now at least..
I just like how mine looks right out of the box..

But I was wondering something, for those of you who removed the original snap buttons away from the straps..,

Could I re-snap the old one's back on onto it? If I added new straps?,
or did you have to just replace 'em with newer snap fittings?

Just wondering.., cause if I ever did decide to re-strap mine, I don't want to mess up and bend/break off those original snaps while pulling them off the hock.(with a screw driver)
As I have no means around the process of punching newer snaps..

Happy Friday the 13th!!! ;) ;)

HAHAHAH

I love what you did with your eyes in that pic!!!

I pryed my strap with a pocket knife-slipped it under the "snap" and rocked it jently.

Yes, you can snap it back together again.

Try it.It's not as scary as it seems :D

But you'll need glue to get them back together again. They're really that loose.

A warning to anyone with unmodded straps who have their masks hanging: squirt some super glue in there or gravity will pry them apart in time and send the mask crashing to the floor.

Good advice.

They must have a quality controll issue. The three masks I have had to be pryed loose with a tool.I guess some aren't as tight.

Mine arrived today thanks to Demonfire. :thumbsup

How are folks displaying these, just hanging them off a nail? Or any more inventive displays, perhaps?

Go back a page and see that I unsnapped the top strap and slid a D ring on.

It hangs nicely-not the most elaborate display, but it works. :D

Good display idea there!

Howlrunner, what mods are you planning? A complete repaint, straps and press-studs, or just a combo of the above?

I have a display in mind. Unfortunately, I'm not a F13 fan, so I wont get to implement it. Anyone else is free to use it, and I'd be happy to help make it for you.

Essentially, I'd buy a cheapo machete, cut off most of the blade at a slight angle, braze a drywall (or other appropriate) screw onto the top of the cut end, and then screw the whole thing right into the wall, and hang the mask from the handle. Kind of like those knife or ninja star coat hooks they sell.

...or if you don't care about your walls, you could just stab a whole machete right through the plaster. :)

Here's a couple of pics of mine. I've just rubbed off a little of the weathering and repainted the red bits so far - I do intend to replace the straps and add the press-studs, but I'm not going to bother with a total repaint, I think it looks fine as it is for my needs:

Somewhat of a Freddy/Jason display, really simple:

finally got mine today. Does mine look a tad bit too wide? Did anyone here reshape there mask? Anyways, still stoked i finally got it.

Hi everyone!!
This is my first post here. I modded my 2009 NECA Jason Mask. Added real scratches, weathering and repainted mask. Replaced strap and added real snaps as well. I will take some outdoor pictures as well and get them up soon. What do you folks think?
