I decided to make a giant mythosaur skull to dress up the house for Halloween.
This will be a 2.5D sculpture to give it some depth but I will still be able to hang it on a wall later.
I started with the basic shape cutout from pink foam.

And started carving in details and a basic shape to give some depth.

Once I got to the point I was satisfied, I hit the foam with a heat gun. This slightly melts the top layer to soften the details and also gives the foam a skin so it will take impact better.

Off to painting, dark brown for the base, carefully getting into all the crevices, followed by a with top coat and then a medium brown wash to age it and sealed it all in with a satin clear coat. I could go further but have to get onto the next project. I may revisit the paint if I have time and airbrush some shadows and dry brush some highlights.

The last thing I want to do is backlight around the eyes with some leds.
