Mythbusters Jacket? - FOUND

I dunno if this qualifies as a costume, but I was very impressed by the green padded jacket Adam was wearing during the 'painting a room with explosives' myth. It's cropped up other times in the series, I'm sure, but this one I definitely remember.
Anyone know what it is and where they're available from?
I've written to Adam via his website, but I think I'd be better off putting the question to a group, several of whom might have the answer.

Re: Mythbusters Jacket?

Tonight, an episode of the show rekindled a need to know more about that damn jacket Adam wears occasionally. I did a search in Google, and there were a couple of leads, but the best one was from a guy on a forum here:

http://ask.metafilter.com/51312/What-kind-of-jacket-does-Adam-have

A guy called Science points to the manufacturer's website (http://www.kitanicaprotective.com/index.htm) but says it's out of production. I think he was looking at the wrong jacket. There's a green one on the main pic page that's similar, but where WE want to go is on the black jacket's page next to it:

http://www.kitanicaprotective.com/MkIVpage.htm

Never mind the patches Adam sewed on himself, that have misled me and others into thinking it was an FBI Evidence Team-type jacket. The one we're looking for is on this very page.
Of course, at $600 the Mark IV. E is the most expensive they do, and well beyond my pocket even with the dollar being as low as it is against the pound just now. Still, those here with deep pockets might now be able to enjoy having lots more pockets. With studs, velcro, zips etc.

Enjoy! (Rather splendid moustache and surly expression not included)

Sorry that this had absolutly nothing to do with the jacket in question, but that guy's officially in a three-way tie for "Ultimate Power 'Stash" with Magnum, P.I. and the dude on the Brawny paper towels.

There was a 2 or 3 page thread in the off-topic forum on here about that jacket. Adam chimed in and it was ID'd. I don't think it was so long ago the thread is gone.

[edit]I just looked, I guess the thread was old enough it fell off the forum. But the one you have pictured is the correct one. Adam said it was a friend of his that works for the company or is the company and they sent him the jacket. Good luck with it.

After posting the pic I found another comment on the Discovery site: http://dsc.discovery.com/fansites/mythbusters/talk/questions/answers.html
If you don't want to go there, the relevant bit says:
"Adam: That jacket was built by hand by my friend Beej Cronin. He had a company called Kitanica Protective that made all sorts of clothing like that. I don't think he makes it anymore."

Maybe he's started again. I wish he'd hire some staff or license the pattern, because even someone with the money's going to have to wait. From the Kitanica website:
"Please note: KITANICA will not be filling orders over the summer months of July and August but will resume production in September."
I guess Beej is on a break for the Summer.

A hollow victory for me. The quest is over and the mystery solved, but there's no way I'm going to get one. After payment & postage, the UK Customs Nazis would want their pound of flesh. Two DVDs just cost me the equivalent of $24 on arrival, which is effectively a bill for VAT and the process of Customs handing them over to the Post Office. This thing could end up costing nearly as many pounds as dollars.

There's some pretty great designs on that site! I wonder if he could be persuaded to do them with zip-off sleeves? I'm in the market for a new cargo vest! :cool:thumbsup

I can tell you this jacket is worth every penny, and Beej was awesome to deal with. If any of you ride, it's an excellent fair-weather jacket that's extremely comfortable, even with all the spine padding.
