Hi Everyone,
First time poster, Long time Lurker,
Wanted to make something special for my brothers Christmas gift, and I knew he was a big fan of the Jedi Temple Guards so I set out to build him a mask.
I checked out some resources and found there are a few different models

So I decided to go somewhere in the middle, Not being a fan of the earcups I wanted to do something a bit more streamlined ( Kinda Deathstroke-ey) so I landed on this PEP file
http://www.papercraftsquare.com/sta...d-mask-papercraft-free-template-download.html
I was a good place to start,
Having little or no experience in modeling I changed the PEP file to an STL file for 3d printing, and imported that into Microsoft’s 3d builder (I know many modelers might be cringing right now but its what I had at the moment). It came in (as expected) very polygon-ey (not an actual word) and broken, repairing it sealed the back half. I then ran the smooth feature until it could not be smoothed out anymore with some pretty good results. Could not figure out how to thin the layer of the mask out so I ended up making a duplicate of the mask shrinking it down 8mm and subtracting, I ended up with this.

If anyone wants a copy of the STL files, let me know ill post them on Thingiverse.
Yes, the eyelids are solid, I didn’t worry too much because that’s what Dremels are for! which is exactly what I did when the print was done. I cut the mask into 3 pieces, here is what the bottom print looked like. I guestimated the size was 2.5X the model and came out exactly as big as it needed to be.

Bottom + right side (you could see some other parts of the build in the background)

Completed and eyeholes cut out.

Started the finishing process. Had to outsource this part, because I don’t have a vented garage and needed to use Bondo (Which I also had little or no experience in (Also, need a Non toxic Version of Bondo I can do indoors, don’t care how long it takes to cure)) so I roped my friend into helping me out. He took something that looked good into something…. Incredible…

At one point we wanted to know what it would look like with a bit of a weathered look and came up with this

It could have worked if I was trying to mimic this :

But I decided against it.
Decided to go flat and freehand painted the mask (apparently I can’t paint for Bantha Puju) decided on freehanding it because there are different versions and I felt that Its something the Jedi would paint himself (kind of like the Clone -Troopers)

All in all, a LOT of learning here cant wait for the next build, would want to do something cool for Comic-Con or something.
