My Tyler Durden Costume

Hey guys.

A while ago I asked around here about a Tyler Durden costume, but now I think I've finished the job and gotten myself a Tyler Durden outfit that I can wear every day and feel like a rock star! (I actually do).

Overall, I would say I'm very satisfied.

I got the jacket from Soulrevolver.com - and it's pretty good for the price - I ordered a size L, but I should have gone for an XL.

The glasses were most notorious to find, but I eventually found them on ebay for $110 - sold by the JTM Group Co.

Tyler almost never wears a black shirt, but I did glimpse a black shirt at somepoint in the movie, and vintage shirts such as those in the movie are difficult to find.

Budget:
The jacket costed me about $300 (including shipping, excluding VAT)
The sunglasses costed me $110 (excluding shipping) - they arrived two weeks ahead of schedule too.
The rest of the gear is just regular clothing.

Anyway, let me know what you think of all this

is that the outfit from the airport bit?
I think Tyler wears about 3-4 different outfits. He wears one in the airport, then a different one in the bar and most of the actual Fight Club scenes, he then get's another jacket during Project Mayhem (the one with stripes) and then at the very end he get's a fur coat.

This is the jacket for the Airplane; Snapshot 01, Snapshot 02

edit: just noticed that he has a black version or the Mayhem Jacket, he wears it in the golfing scene. It's just a few seconds actually.
He changes jackets all the time though.
This is the look I went for, sorry I couldn't get a better picture.

Very Cool! Now you just need to buff up a bit!
Hehe I think I'm gonna take that part on later, but yeah at this moment I don't exactly look like one who can deliver a proper punch :p

Cool, but I like the other jacket from Tyler more... now you need a typical tyler shirt...
This one?
Yeah I need some more Tyler styled shirts, but they're really hard to find, regular stores don't sell anything that looks remotely like them. I think I'm gonna try some second-hand stores or something.

Don't know if you're aware but the original jacket maker, Jonathan A Logan, has been identified and still makes the jacket. Also, Oliver Peoples re-released the OP-523 and they're available. Not knocking your costume at all, it's great. Just thought you might want to get the originals(if you didn't already know what they were).

I did know about the Oliver Peoples sunglasses, but they're really expensive.
I didn't know about Logan though, I think the name popped up once, but it sounded like he had retired.
Just did a Google search right now and found his site, I can already spot a few differences between his and my jacket.

Even though I think I would have gone with Soul Revolver anyway, they're located in GB, and because of the EU, and stuff like that, I save a lot of money when ordering stuff from other EU countries. Logan's jacket would have been a lot more expensive since he's in the U.S

If I ever do find myself in the U.S I might consider getting one of his jackets.
Thanks for the info by the way.

Yep. I like the jacket wth the stripes, if I ever get enough money together I will try to get this fine piece.

I like the bike shirt... ;) You can get the Sock it to me Shirt easy everywhere and there was a shop who want to offer the shirts in near future, but I dont found it again...

the glasses are really entertaining to wear, if you wear them for a while you are instantly blinded for a minisecond if you take them off, and everything will be black and white.

Colors also behave a bit differently;
Red colors like my jacket and red cars turn orange
Violet turn red.
I can't tell the difference between blue and green.
My blue pants appear to be black. A blue candle appeared to be coal black.
The red traffic light is orange, the yellow one is green, and the green one is gone (you can barely see it if you're close enough) (don't drive with these glasses on)
foilage like leaves and stuff appear red, but after you wear the glasses for some time you can still see some green colors.

Hey man,

You should def look into getting some thrift shirts man. Check out Men's Vintage Clothing / 70's Disco Shirts / Vintage Suits / Mens Vintage Clothes as a starting point. If you are gonna go a normal shirt, I reckon a white shirt would be better, as he wears a lot of shirts with a white base - toucan, maple leaf - and I find it offsets the red well.

Overall looks great man. Def recognisable as Tyler.

great site for retro clothes! I could make a great Cosmo Kramer costumer with those clothes!
