My TDK Joker Costume Build

Hello all. I am a loooooong time lurker here on RPF, always in awe of people's unique and talented work. I love costumes but space constraints limit me to what I can do. When I was living with my mom early last year I had garage space to work on a few helmets (Power Rangers, Judge Dredd, Magneto, Kroenen). I ended up moving out into a 1-bedroom apt with no where to work.

Here I show you my first full costume, The Dark Knight Joker! A few pieces I've had since 2008, but I never finished it due to money and just pure fear of ordering a bunch of cheap quality pieces from Ebay. What pushed me to complete it was Hot Topic's Halloween collection for this year, mainly the green vest. It sold out really fast online after I first saw it but I managed to track it down at a local store. We ended up having a costume contest at my job so I really pushed to get it together before Halloween.

90% of this is all Hot Topic stuff, so there's a lot of inaccuracies (Hexagon shirt, tie, pants, vest). But it was attainable and affordable. I had to have the shirt and pants hemmed to me because when you're a 5 foot girl, NOTHING FITS EVER haha.

The makeup and scars are from the ****ty Rubies Joker Makeup kit. I had a hard time getting it to blend with my face. Next time I'm ordering better quality on Etsy or JesterFX. I didn't even have the bottom lip scar.

I replaced the buttons on the Hot Topic vest to look more accurate. The vest is really nice quality but it only has 3 buttons instead of 4. I thought about altering it to have 4 but after speaking to a lady at my job that makes kids clothing it seemed like it wasn't something I could do without destroying it.

I had an extremely difficult time finding shoes that were close to the movie ones AND still fit me. I found these shoes on the DSW site. I ordered the smallest size available and they were still too big. I'm thinking I will do some alteration by adding the other 'flap' pieces to the sides.

The chain I made using 2 24" Micheal's jewelry chains. Attached some clasps to the ends, connected one to my belt loop on the front of the pants and the other end I kept in my pocket. Used a Two-Face keychain to keep it in my pocket.

The gloves I ordered on Ebay from a Chinese seller. The ONLY purple leather gloves I could find that would fit my small hands. I was in luck they had the 3 lines on the top.

Now that I've gotten a feel for it, I plan on getting a more screen accurate tie, pants and different socks. I bought a pair of socks on Ebay but when I got them, I realized the seller greatly exaggerated the term "replica". The pattern was all wrong.... I'm surprised they had so much positive feedback with people saying they look great. I also need to get the blazer and suspenders as well as orange fabric to line the trench coat.

I know this costume has already had it's 15 minutes of fame, but I really enjoyed putting it together. Hope you guys (gals) like it.

NICE work, Kitty. Your dedication to and desire for 100% accuracy is admirable, but you put together a costume anyone should be proud to wear. And I have a hunch that this costume, much like Jack Nicholson's, will be a timeless look. You'll be able to wear it for year. Bravo!
