I started disassembling it from the bottom up, then realized the top just pops off.
I need to get a black washer for the eye to fit properly. Unless there is a better way to do it.
well damn, thats an easier way to get to the eyes than my way :-/
anywho, (and i apologize for the amount of photos)
this is the stock lens... comes with a halogen bulb that requires 12 volts, gets hot and looks RUBBISH. that'll have to go.
get a pair of pliers, hold the red part in one hand and pull the black part out with the pliers.
you'll need to shave down the little ridge by the base of the led, and then put a little glue in, but otherwise its a pretty good fit.
following the pictures above mine, pop the lenses out of the skull, (it seems some are glued in stronger than others... i broke one pin on this one, whereas the other came out much easier and with no breakage) the original leds will just drop straight out
using a 12mm drill bit, drill out a hole...as you can see, what your left with is UGLY. I needed something to cover that up...
turns out what i needed was a dvd case :-/ I used one of the slim cases and cut off the front. drill another hole in it to match that on the mount.
fit em all together
what you're left with will be inevitably too big so trim it down
(nail clippers are good for this)
Then its just a case of resoldering the wires. Make sure you get the polarities right. i swapped my led's out for some 10.000mcd ones, not sure if it made much difference as i think the strength is limited somewhat by the circuitry, but the still look good in daylight and great at night. After that press the mounts back into the skull and glue them back in place. for some peoples tastes, the lenses will sit too far back in the socket using this method, but i am quite happy with the results.
fun photo time
