Re: My Prop Replica Collection - New Arrival - Warehouse 13 - Project : Kit modificat
Damn... just saw this... Happy belated birthday, Alan. I hope you have treated yourself to a new prop!
Belated thanks Rich. And yup, see this post :lol
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I have always wanted a replica of the Tesla Gun from Warehouse 13.
Here are some screencaps :
The best replica is without a doubt, IMO, the one produced by QMX, …. but way too expensive for my pocket
It is also next to impossible to have access to a lathe / milling equipment here, so making one from scratch was out of the question.
However, from the main Tesla Gun thread here on the board, I saw the kit that Scifideity had picked up, this one …..
…. but as pointed out, it was very far off from being accurate.
However, seeing the exact contents, of which this is his photo because I forgot to take a pic of my own (so due pic credit to
Scifideity), I decided to pick one up and have a shot at modifying it.
I did not intend to make any major mods, but as I worked on it, I just kept telling myself “oh come on man, go that one step more” …… so it ended up being a very loooooong process.
Briefly, here are the mods I made (numbers referenced in the above pic).
A few mods have my own twists, some deliberate (eg 1cm longer rods), some were just too complicated on the available material (eg recessed level for the “double meter”), and others I am too lazy (screws for top & bottom copper twisted wire :lol) :
1 & 2 - Changed & Modified cards
3 - “refurbished” knob. Made the “arrow” straight & pointier. Made the “skirt” deeper
4, 5, 6 & 15 – Unused. Replaced with real tubes.
7 - Eliminated tubes bases.
8 - Removed ‘coils’ embedded in cast & replaced.
9 - Eliminated tubes base. Drilled holes for real tube.
10 - Added extra parts on both flat sides to make the cylinder round.
11 - Replaced resin coil tip with real copper wire. Added brass “holder”.
12 - Replaced brass with copper rods.
13 - Eliminated top & flattened to support brass “holder”
14 - Sanded down.
16 - Eliminated in order to have space for metal screw.
17 - Removed “diamond” shape & made it a square.
18 - Shortened to fit level with extra grip added.
19 - Eliminated screws & replaced with correct base.
20 - Added to shape secondary grip.
21 - Added to round main grip to shape with circular base.
22 - Replaced with thicker copper wire.
And here are some self-explanatory progress pics of all the above.
I also added a plinth and a support rod to it, and here is the final result.
Lastly, here it is on display on the top shelf of the central stand-alone unit.
Total cost including kit & tubes came to roughly $65.
