My Prop Replica Collection - New Arrival : The Godfather

Re: My Prop Replica Collection - Small New Arrival - Star Trek

Thank you Alan - this is going to look great above my toilet.

Re: My Prop Replica Collection - Small New Arrival - Star Trek

Awesome additions!

Is that a "Mad Klingon" Star of Kahless?

You're more than welcome :thumbsup. The credit goes to Coz though, all I did was point you to his art :)

Thanks :), and indeed it is !

The Chain is my addition though. I spent a whole day looking for a half-inch thick wheat chain (what the original had).

Nada.

I ended up with a 2-foot chain from my friendly ironmonger and a can of gold spray.

Looks Klingon to me :lol

Re: My Prop Replica Collection - Small New Arrival - Star Trek

Awesome! Tom comes around to the fansite I'm involved in and his work is superb! I agree the chain looks good on it, awesome display job! If I can plug Tom's work, I would highly suggest him if you are looking for screen accurate and detailed Klingon badges. I have talked with him many times and this guy is defiantly someone who not only has the talent, but the passion for his work. Not to mention that his prices are very reasonable for the end product that you will receive.

(Now I wait for my free merchandise to come in for the plug) :lol

Interesting (to some) factoid: In the Klingon role play fan circuit it's usually frowned upon wearing a badge you haven't earned through your club (many clubs use them as rewards for certain achievements). But I would assume if you are going to wear one for a costume party where there aren't nit-pickers about that thing, then it's ok in my book. But if you go to a con and meet a fellow Klingon, be sure to have a story on hand to explain your badge or be prepared to have your honor challenged. Believe me, there are alot of Dahar masters out there who haven't been in fandom that long (and frankly doesn't know what a Dahar master is).

There is (of course) no problem buying them to display in your home among your prop collections. Either way, wear or display your badges with pride. They are surely works of art.

Re: My Prop Replica Collection - New Arrival - Rapa Nui (+ small build)l

Thanks again John :) :thumbsup

----------------------------------------

"Rapa who", I hear some say ? :lol

(Jason Scott Lee - 1994)

Did a search on the board ...... nothing. Either it's not popular, or lacks props :lol

This is, however, one of the films I find myself watching every couple of months. I totally love it. The setting, story, costumes and acting are, to me, fantastic.

For those who don't know about it, here's a brief synopsis relating to the part this replica is about. (courtesy of wiki etc).

Loosely based on events that unfolded on Easter Island prior to its discovery by European explorers in 1722. Story centers around a civil war that decimated an entire culture, leaving only giant stone statues as mute testimony to their former greatness. "Rapa Nui" means center of the earth. It was a name given to the island by natives.

There are two classes of people; Long Ears and Short Ears. Long Ears, marked by large wooden plugs in their ear lobes and a certain tattoo, are the ruling class. The working-class Short ears have no ear plugs and a different tattoo. Young men from each Long Ear tribe compete in the annual Birdman Competition. The winner’s tribe gets to rule the island for a year.

Competitors must swim out to a close-by islet surrounded by pounding surf, climb the cliffs to get an egg from the nest of a sooty tern and bring it back.

The first to return wins for his tribe.

In order to have their hands free, and once collected, the egg is placed in a pouch, that is 'custom made' for the task, and is worn on the forehead.

Sooooooooo anyways, I browsed the net, all the on-line souvenir shops on Easter Island :lol, etc .... and zilch.

I even located the prop master of the movie, and sent him an email asking him is he had any recollection / more info about this prop etc.

No reply. (Must have thought he had a loony on his hands :lol).

Long story long, I decided to make one myself.

Enter 3 pieces of cardboard glued together, and an "I'm glad I didn't throw the top of this Disguise Jack Sparrow Compass with those beautiful stars away"

Small, simple, maybe insignificant to some, but I haven't had so much fun in ages making this replica :)

Re: My Prop Replica Collection - New Arrival - Rapa Nui (+ small build)

Re: My Prop Replica Collection - New Arrival - Rapa Nui (+ small build)

Re: My Prop Replica Collection - New Arrival - Rapa Nui (+ small build)

I feel a clarification post is necessary.

I just received a reply from the prop master of Rapa Nui. (He didn't think I was a looney :lol, just away on business).

Mr. Brian Edmonds was kind enough to even supply me with the name and email address of the artisan on Easter Island who actually made the original props !

:) :thumbsup

Re: My Prop Replica Collection - New Arrival - Rapa Nui - Part 2

Got me a Moai Statue to accompany the Egg Pouch I made. :)

Nah ! :lol

In the movie, the builders used a model of a Moai with 'dividers', and enlarged it to scale while chiseling the real thing.

So using a little bit of this and a little bit of that

rn5-742x498.jpg

etc etc etc ..... and here is my close-enough replica of this prop :)

Don't tempt me Troy :cry .... trying to break a habit here :lol

Re: My Prop Replica Collection - New Arrival - Ghostbusters Display - Finished

Your display is more or less in line with what I had in mind when I eventually get a Proton Pack replica.
I had an idea for a black stained wooden pedestal, squared - roughly the same height you have yours, with a metal plaque featuring the GB logo.
I truly believe a good display can enhance even the most simple of props - so taking the time to do what you did is a big plus.
