Here's (Part 1 of 2) a Forrest Gump Display I've been 'working' on


First, the Bubba Gump Shrimp Co. Cap

The Fortune Magazine Cover

And the "Gump-Mao - Austria - Special Edition" ping-pong paddles.

While there is a clear screen-cap of the 'Mao side' widely available on the net, because Gump 'pauses' there, the 'Gump side' is not. It is only seen while he is spinning the paddle ..... way too quickly :lol.

The first is a net screencap, and the second is a photo I took from a slow/step/freeze from my PC screen.

As a bit of trivia, while doing some research, I found that it seems that the Mao image was taken / inverted and tweaked from this specific Chinese propaganda poster,

There are scores of posters, but this is the only one I found that matches certain details, albeit inverted for the movie.


Anyway, not to bore you further :lol, I got me a set of $5 wooden paddles from China. They were both red, so I painted one blue for the Gump paddle.

The images I came up with did not fit the shape of the paddles, so I had to first fix the images on, then sand the paddles to their shape.

The result

And all on display.

Part 2 to follow at a later date

That Bat-mobile is wicked, I actually have pics of the real one from the same angles and the details on the model are impressive!

I've always loved that movie, shortly after it came out a local entrepreneur in our small town decided to open a restaurant called "Bubba Gump Shrimp Co.". Used the exact logo and font from the film for the signs and etched glass-ware. He did VERY well for a year... then somebody contacted the studio and they shut him down (apparently he didn't think it was an infringement! :facepalm ) My brother had gotten a few bar glasses before they closed but I doubt they have survived the years.

There seems to be a whole chain of restaurants "Bubba Gump Shrimp Co Restaurant & Market" all over the USA, although not with the exact same logo.

However, no doubt where this quote is from :lol

The new chain opened up within 6 months of the local guy getting a C&D (I guess the studio thought it was good idea :lol ). He even had a full-scale mural of Forrest sitting on the bench with a feather on his shoulder etched into the plate glass window on the front (had to be removed ) It was changed to just "Bubba's" for a few years, but I think it's a sushi place now. I didn't realize the chain used non-SA logo, now I have to call my bother to if there are any of the SA logo glasses still floating around.

Where did you bought the cap on ebay, seller costumbase ? And soon you can no longer collect more, no place. Or is the second room ready ?

Yup, costumebase :thumbsup.

Out of all those available, it seemed to be the closest one ( it has the black band at the bottom of the shrimp's top hat :lol)
