My Perseus build

Hi all! I'm new here and this will be my third thread, the first one on a costume build. I'm a fan of scifi and fantasy, and the remake of Clash of the Titans really got me into the mood for some ancient armor. Anyway, I'm starting with some sketches I made of the Perseus armor.

I will be attempting to sculpt the cuirass on a mannequin and add details using floral foam, which will be covered in bondo/resin. I know that most people will attempt a sculpt using clay, but that commodity is not available to me, hence the alternative. Other parts will be leather and/or PVC, and hard parts will be made from fiberglass.

The greaves

I've been looking at all the pics that I can find, and this is the best that I can come up with for now. Please note that the sketches are taken via camera directly from my sketchbook. Sorry if the pic quality is not so good! I'd appreciate constructive comments from members! :)

Here's some progress... I has scales! But I need your opinion, should I go for the equal hex scales, or the longer ones? These scales will be mounted onto the shoulder plate/pauldron.

These are the scales in their mold.

I will be making the master for the sword next, the design of which will be based on this... :)

He might as well have been! LOL! :D

Anyway, what I meant was the sword in the movie seems similar to the Mandalorian dagger that I made (and not that much longer). Maybe I can use the dagger as a base for the sword, or sculpt a master in similar fashion. ;)

Here are some updates:

The master for the sword:

The body armor:

I've decided not to make a mold for the armor, but instead making/sculpting it using layers of foam on posterboard and then glassing the whole ensamble inside and out.

Looks great so far! I saw the trailer for this last night at the movies and always love these types of movies/costumes :)

I would love to see a status shot. Where is this costume now? Have you made headway? It looks fab!

Sorry for keeping quiet for some time... anyway, the costume I made was used for the Clash of the Titans roadshow in Malaysia! :lol

Here are some pics:

Perseus with an extended version of the orginal sword. Found out that it was too short! I didn't make the Medusa head.

An accompanying Greek soldier. The event organiser requested that I make another one to accompany Perseus.

Perseus and Greek soldier.

I know I missed a few details on Perseus. I will put in more details when I get the suits back from the roadshow! Any comments? :)

That turned out really good! I'm glad you got back to posting an update.

Did you treat the surface of the two costumes differently? The second one looks more glossy than the first...

I've used poster board more than one time for costumes. We use what we have and sometimes the simplest materials can surprise you and look authentic.

And that Medusa is far too pretty! haha!

Thanks for following my thread! The two surfaces were treated rather differently. The Perseus armor had flat gold and brushed bronze, while the Greek soldier had gloss mahogany, which I tried to tone down using some flat black. Wanted it to look like leather. :)

I have to agree that posterboard is handy to have around!
