I originally thought of this idea in the discussion on this thread...

I built my mom a custom wand for Christmas and wanted a unique way to display it so I came up with the idea of a shadowbox that looked like a part of Olivanders shop. I wanted it to look like the wand was floating in it's box, hopefully you guys and girls will let me know what you think.

I also wanted to thank the paper props people who's names I can't remember at the moment for some of the paper props I used... as soon as I get a chance to find the proper credits I will be sure to post my thanks and give proper credit. I am just excited to have this done finally and wanted to get the opinion of so many talented people.

My mothers two favorite things in the world are Harry Potter, and Native American art...so I decided to combine the two. Please let me know what you think...and keep in mind I am not a painter or carpenter by any means...I know the basics...the bead work woodworking were all done by hand by me.

Thank you to lemonlemonuk for the quidditch world cup poster, and to zeeky5678 for the umbridge proclamation as well as to juno for the platform 9 3/4 ticket... I think they all do amazing work and I hope they don't mind me using them in my display :)

WOW!! I'd say you nailed your original concept!!

I am making a custom wand display for my mother for christmas, she is a huge potter fan. My idea was to take a shadow box and make about 2"-3" long sections of wand box ends to make them look like they were stacked in the film, and then using clear acrylic make a stand that is hidden and comes out between the boxes to hold the wand box tilted at an angle with the lid open to look like the wand was flying out to "choose" it's owner...since I was only doing one wand I thought of the shadowbox, and possibly even putting the lettering on the glass to look like you are looking through the shop window.

Very, very nice. Mom's gonna be a cryin' some come Christmas morning, I'm a bettin' ya!

Love the bead work on the wand handle, really nice personal touch.

WOW great idea! so original, and it really does look like olivanders, with the wand boxes stacked up. good job. :)

Very nice, really does look like a wand I imagine some of the Native American wizards in the Wizarding World would carry around.

The wand and display is fantastic! Very original way to display it! Your mom will be so happy with this wonderful gift!

Great work and attention to detail!

Thanks to all for the kind words... There was no real way to hide it from her so I went ahead and got her opinions on some of the aspects of it as it went and she just loves it. I think she is most excited about having a dust free place to put some of her other harry potter collectibles that she hasn't been able to display yet. I just recently showed her the RPF and she is amazed with everyone's work. She is already planning on having me build some more props to go in here once she can get a second copy of The Wizarding World of Harry Potter to use as a reference.

thats so much cooler then the hand made christmas cards i used to make my mom.

Shes gonna have you working your butt off now to make all the cool items people put on this site everyday...I think you should make her an iron man helmet to wear around first

I would but my pepakura skills are more than a bit lacking....lol

Thank you for the kind words. My mother is already discussing how she wants to find a bunch of other props and harry potter items to put in there... as well as my father wanting something similar for a movie for him...now he just needs to decide what one. :)

Nice!

As soon as I saw the pic, I was hit with a stunning spell! Your floating box made brought me to the idea of a forced perspective, with the box in a display window with the rest of olivanders in the background! In the first book it describes a single wand on display in the window, so it would be perfect.

Good job!!!
