MY mannequin build (first for me)

Expanding foam does actually sound like a really good idea. I might try that when I have the time.

This is an awesome idea, both comical and practical. I've been shopping around for an actual store male mannequin but they're pricey. I have basically unlimited access to rolls of tape and pipe as I'm an electrician and my wife would love to tape me up then walk away cackling to herself.

I went the route of pricing real mannequins as well. They are stupid priced, at least for me. I would rather spend the money on fun stuff!
It was A LOT of fun! My sister had a blast teasing me the entire time. When we got to the crotch area, I opted to do that part myself. Much to her relief I think.:rolleyes

I wish I could take credit for the idea, however I saw it on a YouTube video posted by Stealth I think.

Good luck with building your mannequins and let me know if anyone decides to use the expanding foam. I would really like to hear how well it works.

What about carving a polystyrene foam replica, or you could expanding foam fill a hazard suit and shave it down to proportion.

I can't see why that wouldn't work. Only problem I could see for me personally is I am not a sculptor of any real skill. I don't think I could get anything close to my real dimensions as easily as I did with this method.

I might try the hazard suit for a laugh, we could always wrap ourselves in paper mache and hope someone cuts us out once it sets

I made a duct tape dummy head awhile back, and tried filling it with insulation foam.
I did little by little at first, thinking I gave it enough time to cure and expand. Nope.
When I thought all was well and filled all holes up, it never fully cured. Soft parts on
the head, leakage from the neck that would cure. I believe it needs open air and heat.
Maybe. Idk. I stabbed holes in the soft sections to get some air in there to help it cure.
But no matter how long I waited, there was always goop somewhere.
But that was my experience. I'm sure there's a correct way to do it but if newspaper or
old clothes etc. suffice, I'd keep using that.

Wow, I'm sorry to hear that.
I guess the lesson would be, test something you are not sure of on a sample piece first. but thanks for the information!

Oh nice job! I am actually in the process of making my own body form as well though I am only doing a torso for now. It is my second run of trying to make one. My first one was duct tape and fiber fill and it worked well until i had to move multiple times due to my job. So this time I've been following this one person who made a cast with plaster bandages and then filling it with Great Stuff. I'll let you know how that turns out. But so far it is working well, and with minimal carving.

This is actually pretty consistent with what I've read when looking into filling the dummy. You cant go wrong with filling it with plastic bags and newspaper.

Sounds like a very interesting way to go about it.
Post some pics as soon as you are able, I would love to know how it turns out!
I am planning on making more of these, one for each project, so I would be very interested in another way to build them.

Anybody able to give a rough idea how many rolls of tape it takes?

I know fat people like me will need more than thin people but don't want to get halfway through then have to waddle to the shops for more!

I have a 33 inch waist, 5'11 and 210 lbs. It took 2 1/2 rolls (the big ones!) from Ace hardware.
My advice, buy way more than you think you will need. You can never have too much duct tape!!
