MY mannequin build (first for me)

Hi guys,
Just thought I would post some pics of my mannequin build.
About 10 hours build time start to finish including the wrapping process.

I know its a yawnfest as far as building things go on this website, however I was quite proud for my "jumping off" point into this wonderfully crazy hobby.

I'm also thinking of ways to build one. Besides the pipes, what did you use for the inside when you taped the whole thing? And is it measured to your own body or just winged it?

Here's some pics to explain.
Its just stuffed with plain old newspaper. And yes, its pretty darn accurate to my dimensions.

Damn, I'm a handsome guy! Lol!

I'm attempting my very first build of Ironman.
I did quite a bit of costuming for myself and friends in the past, but this type is new to me.
I'm VERY excited to get started and boy am I glad I found this site! SO much great stuff!! VERY talented folks, and are very generous with help and feedback!

Whatcha planning to put on it?

I wish it wasnt such a chore to ask my girlfriend for help doing things like this. To ask her to help me do my torso, get her to do it, and then to do it was a just a ****ing nightmare.

I bet if I had a local girl that shared the same interests as me to help make the torso for me; her attitude would change 180 degrees.

I bet you are right :rolleyes
Would sometimes also be nice to not get 'that look' when you mention that you are building this or that.

That's why the universe invented family: they already know how weird we are, and will begrudgingly help us...because they know we're not going to go away. :lol

Thoramyre, that second picture of the "build" is hilarious. Looks like it came out great. Good luck with your builds.

I had my sister help me with this. My girlfriend was out of town and was actually disappointed she wasn't there to help. I guess I'm lucky, she encourages this hobby even though it isn't her sort of thing. I doubt I will ever get her to wear a costume, but she has expressed interest in going to a Comicon so that's a start.:p

Amen to that!
Family (at least mine) are not surprised with my antics, as a matter of fact over the years it has come to be expected. It's fun being the cool, eccentric uncle James!
I felt like I had been swallowed by a boa constrictor, very odd sensation. My sister and brother-in-law kept threatening to lay me on the floor like a helpless turtle and paint make up all over my face.

Oh nice, thanks for the pictures too. Good luck on the build :)

Thanks! I will be posting more photos and news worthy mile stones as they occur. It's nice being a part of a community of like minded folks. That's a refreshing change from my work. They all roll their eyes or just don't get it.:confused

Side note:
If you decide to build one of these, a paper painters suit works great. I had on one over a pair of biking shorts. The suits are super cheap and easy to find.

I'm looking into making a mannequin myself.
So quick question. After you wrap yourself up in duck tape how do you get out of it?

You will need some help. A VERY sharp, good pair of scissors and a little patience. She cut up the back of each leg making an inverted "V" over my tail bone at the small of my back, then straight up my spine. Then across the shoulders down the back of each arm. Then wriggle out carefully.;)

cool, then you just tape it close again and stuff it with whatever's handy?

Exactly!

I toyed with the idea of filling it with that expanding foam insulation. But at the last minute I decided against it. I wasn't sure how that stuff works, and decided I really didn't want to chance it and have to redo the whole thing over. I might try it in the future since this is going to be just one of many I build.

If anyone has used that foam, I would love to know how well it worked!
