Hey guys, I thought I'd share my latest project. I've always wanted a full size Palantir in my display and been looking for just the right sphere to pop up on ebay that would work for a decent price. I found a nice 6.5 inch obsidian one that had a nice white swirl that ran through it and I thought would work great. Here is what I got:
Then I wanted to make a stand like the Saruman SSW statue seen here:
So I started out with some MDF and carved the top design with my router here:
Then I needed to fill in the gaps, which I did with expanding foam and then covered with bondo. I also started to texture the outside to have the natural rock look.
After some sanding and touch ups along with 2 coats of black spray paint and then a clear top coat of semi-gloss polyurethane it turned out pretty good.
and added a cloth to cover it up to keep Sauron from watching me at night :lol
