Well after my Big Baby turned out pretty decent - http://www.therpf.com/f9/my-1st-prop-scratch-hellboys-big-baby-build-thread-179278/index6.html, I've decided to move onto Hellboy's sidearm.

As part of my 3D Fabrication & Prop Design class that I teach, We've decided to give our Makerbot Replicator 2X a real workout. Here's a render of our output from MAX, awesome student work.

We're really trying to make this easy to print and will share the files on Thingiverse once I've printed and tested them all. We've built our own support where needed and so far we've got 3 parts printed, will upload more pics soon

Thanks

Here's the 1st 3 pieces, we had to cut the barrel in 2 because the Makerbot wasn't quite big enough to print it in 1 piece, so far, so good. Should have some more next week to post

Great modelling by Mathias

Ok that is a billion times prettier then my current printed one. ****, now I don't know if I want to finish painting mine.

Thanks, these are untouched atm, might do a bit of sanding. They are printed at .15 microns, the rep2x is really dialed in atm. We'll have the files share probably sometime next week

Here's a few more pics of the Samaritan, it should be done printing in the next couple days

Here's a taped mockup to make sure the parts fit. The size is perfect, this thing is a monster!

I need some help from someone with the Sideshow Prop - I'm not sure if the scale of my bullets are right. They seem to slide down into the cylinder nicely, but I'm thinking that (in real life) they shouldn't. They should sit near the back open part so the hammer could strike the bullet.

If someone with the prop could take a pic of how the bullets seat into the cylinder, it'd be much appreciated - thanks

Hellboy II Samaritan full size replica - Another Pop Culture Collectible Review by Michael Crawford, Captain Toy

The cartridges are too small on the sideshow piece as well, but they're still bigger than your initial sizing. :)

In reality, the lip at the end of the casing should prevent the round from falling forward and seat the round properly in the cylinder.
The tolerances in your samaritan design don't allow that at the moment even if the round was properly sized.

Really beatiful modeling and printing so far! It looks awesome.

Thanks for the kind words, more sanding this weekend. Gotta find bolts, etc, will post more soon

That thing is a beast! How much does it weigh?

You're doing an excellent job by the way. It's turning out beautifully. :love

This is fantastic! I'm in the middle of doing the same thing with a similar revolver.

I'm surprised the grips and hammer turned out so well, being such organic shapes. It must be a pretty high-poly model.
