Ok, seeing as these is gonna be a bit of a mission I thought I'd set up my own thread for it starting with what I have so far and where I'm at with it.

This is what I'm aiming for...

And this is the Chest Armour template which is all cut out and ready to go tho I'm thinking of finding some material a bit more solid...

And thats the story so far! :D

BIG Thanks to Tattoo Box from thedentedhelmet.com for the template pdf's.

Re: My Kroenon Costume Project!

If what u are aiming for is the 1st pic, u dont need the chest armor. If u want to use chest armour and do the clockwork kroenen you dont need the officers cap.

also, nazi kroenen mask is different from the clockwork kroenen in colour scheme.

Re: My Kroenon Costume Project!

Hey Nate, thanks for the advice dude and yeah I know about the chest plate but want to do it as well. About the Nazi Kroenen and the Clockwork Kroenen, whats the difference as not heard of the Clockwork Kroenen?

Cheers dude.

you might want to check back on your movie refs and also use your search key - cos there always disagreement abt the exact colours etc

but nazi kronen - the chin is more black with bronzy/goldy showing through as weathering (see your pic above)

the clockwork kroenen (sometimes called Mencken Library Kroenen) - its more silver with rust, like in the sideshow mask

both cossies are quite different with different accessories - so when you say ".....but want to do it as well. " you might need 2 masks, unless you dont mind the slight difference from screen seen.

also to do the 1st pic, the nazi kroenen, the uniform is not a standard cloth SS uniform, its all leather, so if you havent factored in cost yet - thats another thing to consider. Then theres the various badges and insignias. Mine is already well past the $500 mark, and I still need to source the right boots. Again - depends on what you want to do, as I have seen lots just do it with teh cloth version.

if you are scratch building, the clockwork kroenen is probably cheaper - esp.ly if youare buikldnig the chest and back plates yourself.

Good luck.

Nate

Thanks for the help Nate and yeah its the Clockwork Kroenen I'm doing BUT with the above outfit and will just get it roughly right for now as this is my first project. Dont wanna run before I walk. ;)

Thanks again dude, much appreciated.

Thanks dude, just given it it's first coat of gold leaf paint....

CA-4.jpg

Not a great pic but trust me it's more golden and smoother than the picture is showing. Basically as you can see in the top of post I used cardboard for the base. Then used epoxy putty which I patiently rolled into strips to create the swirls. I sprayed a tad of spray mount onto the cardboard just to make sure the putty stuck ok. After a good few hours of this procedure and after the putty had dried I then gave the front and back of each side two coats of varnish to protect and harden.

Then sprayed one coat of gold leaf paint onto the armour and this is where I'm at this moment.

The circles are made up of rubber and copper washers which you can get anywhere.

I'll be tring to work out how to weather the armour as I want to give it a darker effect at the base underneath the swirls.

Hope you enjoy. :D

Thanks SonofPumkinhead, lol bit of a mouthful but I'm sure I'll get some peoples names eventually tho this is quite a minefield. ;)

Very nice on the expoy work. I've thought about using that method as a base sculpt and then just make a mold of it and use the slosh method for a nice sturdy one.

Thanks guys.

Blood Wolf not a bad idea to make a mold, might try it some day but like Rocko said (and thanks for the compliment Rocko :) ) "low budget" and this is my first project and first time doing anything like this at all.

I know when I get the mask and it's all kitted out I'll make a perfect (or close to) replica of the Chest Armour as it's not that hard to do. :)

I did notice one major cock-up and hands up but the bigger swirl at the top half of the armour is waaaay off what it's suppose to be like and that will always stick in my mind. What the hell was I thinking!!

Really impressive chestplate.

I'd always been put off of doing a 'full' Kroenen because of aspects such as this.

Your pics prove it can be done in a very good way that doesn't require heaps of metal and hours panel beating!

Thanks

Thank you Maddavros, your words are truely incouraging. :)

I will have an updated picture up soon with the trimmings finished, the hinges on and the cog plates in place.

Really enjoying this project alot and my mask should arrive next week so will be perfect timing in terms of finishing off the Armour.

I have a 2m x 2m sheet of top grade leather coming soon for the armour straps so that will be interesting to see how it turns out. Judging by the photos of the leather off-cut it will need weathering too so I think I'll use a kind of stain for this.

To echo with what others are saying, very damn good mate for something of a "low" budget. That chest piece is amazing

Thank you Blood Wolf, means alot dude as this is my first attempt at anything like this.

As I know now how things are done, maybe when I get a chance I'll replicate it alot more accurately. It's been really fun doing this and have thoroughly enjoyed it. Getting the leather soon so will post pics of the straps when done. :)
