My Indiana Jones Inspired Coffee Table

As some of you know I'd turning my attic into a prop room. Now that the building part is done, now I'm focusing on decorating.

My wife and I picked up some nice chairs from IKEA but couldn't decide on a coffee table that would fit the room and allow me some space to display some small prop odds and ends.

So a few weeks ago my buddy George called and asked if I wanted some glass, we started talking and decided to build this:

The box was built to fit the glass but inspired by the crate that "Top Men" put the Ark into at the end of Raiders. I spent about $60-70 on the wood and staples and after a few hours of assembly and another hour or two making the stencil I'm pretty happy with it.

One thing I loved about this idea was that the ribbing or whatever that holds the boards together ends up keeping the glass about 3/4" above the main body of the box, so I have a place to put some props that otherwise wouldn't get displayed well. I'd also like to pick up some old coins from around the world and maybe some other paper props to put under the glass, and maybe on top of it.

Now to figure out an end table that is prop related...but not another crate.

I wasn't sure what to expect when I saw the title but this is very unique and well done! I like it :) One with the ark incorporated into it would be cool too!

I am thinking about putting lights on the inside of the box just to give it an ambient glow :).

And thanks for the kind words guys.

Very Cool.
What about the box that the Book of the Dead is found in for your end table.
You could have it with the side off to store other artifacts in.

Very nice. I have a similar table in my living room. It's actually an old Tea crate(ala Boston Tea Party) with a glass top.

I like how you displayed the Goonies stuff under the glass.

Again guys, thanks for all of the kind words. It's nice to build something others think is cool.

I don't know if I'll weather it or not. I'd say probably not just because I'm lazy and I have 8 million other things to do. Although it would look better.

Very cool idea! Now all you need to do is train a rat to stumble around hap-hazardly near the bottom of the crate to amuse your guests! :D

I know it's not nearly as elaborate as the work you guys do Tom, but you continue to be such an inspiration around here. Maybe I'll have to up the ante a bit of the end table. I have an idea that involves a wheel off the batmobile.

Woah, nice idea......wait a minute, lightbulb moment!!

I could do this with my desk!!! - Its got a glass top, all i need to do is install a 1" frame round the outside - Then bingo, space to show off paper props, eg maps and coins etc.

Thank you, thank you, thank you for the inspiration!!!!

that's really cool, Gregg!

it looks like those items are UNDER the glass?

are you planning on putting other items under the glass?

might be cool to put the headpiece of Ra under there?

I'm sure the INDY prop experts would have plenty of other suggestions too...:thumbsup
