Damn, I know I said major update coming up after the weekend,,, which was like a month ago. Sorry...
Well, better late than nerver, here it is!
The suit is done, and premiered at the Gothenburg Sci-Fi Convention.
Pics from the convention:
HERE !
Here is a litle taste
First I have airbrushed the feet and I did the skin with a custom sized lycra suit. Worked really well with my airbrush. Sure Im no expert on using it, but this was a really good training exercise since most skin wont be visible anyway. I did the hands the same way. I first tried to attach some fake monster nails, but that did not go very well. First I could not get the leather gloves over the nails, and nothing could be touched.... eventually the nails started falling off one by one, The glue had somehow left a pretty smooth surface wich resembled something like human nails. Well, a hell of a lot better than nothing, and after some black paint it actually looked kind of good.
Then, during on week of stomache flue, I had the chance to make the gauntlets. I used some of Vinmans templates, along with some own designs, and of course with some wodden buttons to top it of. PVA, black spray paint, dry brysh silver... and done! These were actually the hardest part of the whole suit. Not the actual desing, but making them fit. It sure took some tries before I got it right.
Simple neck ring was made with some smaller backing rods
And so.... my first all foam, low budget, Predator suit is finished!
I do have some fixing-ups that I will take care of in a near future, such as
- After the convention days some ares of the skin suit sticks to the armor, so I will have to touch up the suit, as well as touching up some areas on the armor that has gotten some beating.
- A proper under mask is on its way. I really dont like the back of my head just wearing a black hood. It looks too small, but it works.
- With the under mask I will mould proper dreads in poly foam. Backing rods worked better than I thought, but I really would like to have the ability to make them "swooosh", and actually be able to turn my head.
I am also thinking about making the shoulder cannon, as well as the back pack... Have not yet decided if I will attach it to this chest armor or if I make a new one. It will probably be the latter, since the armor right now after a couple of hours kind of gives me really bad shoulder pains. Maybe som padding will help?
Well, there you go. I have learned a lot along the way, and now I am eager to build some more, even better stuff!
