My first Pep, Prop, first everything. Iron Man!

So I'm new to the forums, and for my first project I'm working on the Iron Man helm, after about 6 hours of learning how to use Pepureka and cutting, and learning super glue is bad idea, and running around trying to find a hot glue gun, this is what i have so far.

I dig it! I sure as heck don't know how to use a Pep program, so I give props to anyone who does. The chin looks a tad big though, but that could be the angle of the camera too.

i just finished the entire PEP, and im not happy at all. I had such a hard time getting all the pieces to fit. The back part, the one with the two Ear/Circles attached to it, made me want to punch a small child. I cut everything and glued everything as best as i could but its just frustrating.

Even tho its not perfect, is it still worth trying to put resin, and Rondo? the next steps?

hit up the 405th.com/forums. There are tons of tutorials and such in the noob forum on steps on what to do. Very helpful. Also, Dubean33's new helmets are pretty slick, you should check those out

I'd say keep going on that one and practice with doing the resin/bondoing it. I recommend going to a auto body paint store to pick up some lightweight body filler.

I too am in the completion stage of my 1st pep which is the IM helmet as well. From what I'm getting from others on the forums is don't have too high a standard for your 1st project.....think of it as a learning curve. Mine will simply be a piece to sit in my Home Theater case (none functional). I too am discouraged by the lack of fitting pieces but just stick with it and I'm sure you will be happy with the results.

The chin is a bit big on that version, but it's mostly the camera angle.

Easier than a hot glue gun, get some Elmers, a small paintbrush, and acup of water to rinse the brush when needed. It's easy as heck to apply a thin layer, hold it together for a second, repeat. Much less fuss than hot glue, fewer fumes and glued fingers than Super Glue (an invention of Satan, imo).

More pics of the finished PEP

Well finnaly woke up and took some more pics, The more i look at it, the only thing that really bugs me is the damn Back piece with the Circles attached to them. Also i figure the helmet at Ratio Size 1.0 will not fit me, Im a Big guy 6'2" and that helmet may fit my brother when im done. I'm going to go buy my Resin and Bondo today, But after looking at the 405th Tuts, When i do the inside Rondo, I cant do a slush Cast due to the Eyes being open, and the mouth. Any thoughts? use throw away brushs?

Well i just printed out my 2nd helm, and about to start cutting. I think im going to take more time putting this one toghter. see how it goes. I looked at the HD version, and tryed to put it toghter, and i fail at it bad. The tabs and cuts are just to small for my damn hands to work with. So im going to go ahead and make a 2nd Helm of the orignal. I can always Cut in detail once its harden.

On a side note, i bought the Desinger program so i can Save my scales, i know my first helm was to small for my head. So i made it a tad bigger this time. I think 10cm tall, should fit my melon.

Like anything, papercraft becomes easier with practice. I'm kind of impressed that you took on that helmet as a first project - I've built various paper models on and off for quite a few years now, and I'm still having a little trouble getting all those helmet sub-assemblies smacked together correctly. :lol

I think you did a great job on it, and you'll only get better with practice. Keep up the good work.

I think it looks great for your 1st pep, mine looks much worse at least in the details (I'm working on it). Might I inquire how you attached your ear pieces? I was thinking of making my own attachment pieces with card stock but wanted to hear other options of there are any.

I think the problem i had on the first helm, where the Struts. The tubes in the middle of the helm, to keep its shape. I think i put the wrong one on the jaw line, There not labled so i didnt know what one was for what one

there are 2 non numbered pieces on page 3 of the print outs, i used those. It was a *****, i was getting pissed when i couldnt get the damn helm to fit toghter. I think my 2nd attempt, i will NOT glue the helm toghter. I will keep it as 3 pieces to resin this time.

problem with leaving in 3 pieces from what I've heard is it may not align up properly afterwards.

use binder clips with some wax paper or playing cards sandwiched between the pieces and then resin it together. The pieces will all be hardened and fit together, but will easily be separable
