My First Cosplay Costume (PIC HEAVY)

Hello Everyone!

This is my first post. I recently created my first "semi-original" cosplay costume.

I was inspired by N7 armor and the character Gabriel from Dan Luvisi's "Last Man Standing".

The piece was created over 3 months. It is a wearable costume and I can also display it in my office on a mannequin.
When displayed on the mannequin, I use a mask that I doctored up to make the piece come alive!

BUILD PICTURES:

Started out on the main body armor using mannequin.

Got motor cross boots put on the mannequin.

Leg and some arm armor applied.

Mask used when displaying on mannequin under helmet. I applied all the battle damaging myself (scars, cuts, blood, ect.)
I also added the glass eyes to give make it appear more realistic. I still need to dirty up the face a bit....I'll do that soon enough.

That is a very cool costume! How did you do the weathering on the foam? Did you just hit it with a dremel?

That helmet is awesome! I'm not familiar with Last Man Standing but did you make that helmet? I'd love to know what it's made of and/or where it or similar helmets can be commissioned if it was purchased.

Thanks! :thumbsup

The weathering was done using a wood burning tool. It sliced into the foam like butter. ;)
I then added silver paint inside the cracks/holes/scratches then did a wash of black to make the silver more subtle.

Last Man Standing is great. You should check it out.

The helmet was purchased here on the RPF from oysteinhole.

VERY SLICK! Wonderful job!

Thanks SofaKing01! :D :thumbsup

Wow, this is your first attempt at doing armor? This is really well done! What type of foam did you use? Also, where did you get the helmet and how did you go about making the visor? Are all the pieces velcroed? I love the LEDs, are they connected to one battery? Can we see how you did the wiring?

All the pieces of armor were created using EVA foam matts that I purchased at Harbor Freight. The armor pieces have an elastic strap with quick release buckle clips. The front armor connects to the back armor by the same method (elastic strap and buckle clips on each side) and I also used velcro at the top of the front armor to attach it to the armor that goes around the neck from the back. At the bottom of the front armor I used rare earth magnets to connect it to the buckle on the waist/hip armor.

The wiring for the LEDs was a mess. I had never done anything like this, let alone try to wire 20 LEDs to one power source. The battery pack I used can be found here. I also used these Power Plugs at the bottom of the back, and behind my legs (back of knees) to connect all the lights and make it easier to get in and out of the suit. Having them all wired together was a nightmare....and this makes it so much easier!

Hope this answers some of your questions.

Feel free to ask more questions.

I'll try to get some pictures of inside the suit for wiring and such.

I plan on posting some more photos of me in the suit as soon as I get some extra time.

That would be awesome if you could get pics of the inside for wiring and such. Really appreciate the detailed response. Can't wait to see more pics!

Looks great! Interested in learning more about the rifle and work you did on it, and of course moar pics lol. Good job all-around.

Thanks Azrok! :thumbsup

The gun is a Nerf Stampede. I filled in all the screw holes and painted a base layer of silver metallic, then added a layer of black. I then scuffed up the gun and added some dry brushed silver to areas. I also mounted a small flashlight under the barrel using rare earth magnets.

Hey guys!
I know I said I would get some images of my wiring set up on the inside of the suit.
After looking it over, I realized it's not going to be much of a help. I have all my wiring covered with tape and glued down to secure them.

Honestly, I had no clue what I was doing when it came to wiring. I just tried to make sure all the positives were connected and all the negatives were connected.
I will say, dont finalize anything until you test it. And TEST OFTEN. I made the mistake a few times of thinking I was good to go and heat sealing the wiring.....which turned out not working....so I had to go back and replace wire and redo connections.

So my advice when wiring is TEST OFTEN and dont finalize anything until you know it's working!

I'll try to snap some more pictures tonight!

Cheers!

I like it. I might advise to give the white around the LEDs some attention... Kinda weird to have a battle worn suit, but the LED white area is clean white. Also, how did you do the visor for the helmet? Vacuum formed? If so, what material did you use? PETG? What thickness if so? I am curious, because I am making a visor for a rinzler costume and I just bought some .060" PETG to try.

Thanks for the comments Pyrotechx.

The white areas around the LEDs has been battle damaged. The lights are too bright in the pictures...but it's there. :D
